Clarky
Hi all, given tougher economic times (and a hankering after another [way cheaper] bass on this Forum) am thinking of selling this beauty as having two Rick 4003s is a bit of a luxury. I bought it from a US member of the RickResource Forum earlier this year and the body is in absolutely brilliant condition. The pickups are not stock, however (two identical high-output Barts; note that the treble pickup is noticeably louder, never bothered investigating why as I - like Lemmy - select the treble; may be something simple like proximity of pole pieces to strings!). The Lemmy-alike sticker is optional (and doesn't damage the finish if removed)! As with most used 4003/4001s the treble pickup cover/handrest disappeared many moons ago. I did put on a Pickguardian treble pickup surround (see pics) but have since put back on the original black surround (which has some spots of rust, like the bridge) and have added a hand rest/pickup cover (black ones are not made any more and are rare as hen's teeth, so I bought a stock Rick 4003 chrome handrest and painted it black with Hammerite metal paint, looks a bit bodged up close but great from any distance). You can have it either way, obviously both options would be included. In choosing between the two, I would say the Pickguardian surround makes finger style easy and looks very clean, whereas the handrest is good for picking and for that "authentic" look. Comes with (for its age) a very good condition, fully functioning OHSC which has obviously sat in a lot of smokey clubs in its time. A good airing or Febreze would probably sort that out quickly (I just have it shut in my study and use a padded gigbag for transporting the bass on London underground). All in (with Pickguardian surround, handrest, cost of bass including US import taxes etc) this has cost me roughly £1,000. Would be interested in offers approximating to that level. I think thats fair based on the prices of 4003s going on eBay. A similar MG/BT sold on this site a few months back for £1,150 (albeit it had stock pickups) http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...hl=rickenbacker. No trades please as would like to liberate some cash. They are very well known among the US Rick fraternity and a standard replacement for pickguards and pickup surrounds - they do other bass manufacturers too http://www.pickguardian.com/pickguardian/R...dgePUPlate.html
