spiltmilk_2000 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Just back from seeing maceo Parker (James Browns sax player in the 60s) and the bassist grooved so much! Anyone know who it was? Massively fat fella if that helps! Unbelievable player! Thanks if you can help! Quote
chris_b Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 That's probably Rodney "Skeet" Curtis. Quote
Dad3353 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 That would be Rodney 'Skeet' Curtis, I expect. The last time I saw them play, at our local Festival, he had problems with his own bass, and no spare. I lent him our Cort fiver for the show; he made good use of it. A fine bloke, and more than excellent bassist, of course. Quote
evilLordJuju Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I caught Maceo's show a couple years back - with Skeet on bass. Great performance all round! definitely worth seeing if you get the chance Quote
spiltmilk_2000 Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 It was indeed skeet! Thanks for the ID :-) I'm still reeling from the show. Between skeet and Cora Coleman on drums the rhythm section was seriously smokin' :-) Quote
Lynottfan Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Indeed Skeet is a big fella, and he is The Bass in Yo face as Mr Clinton used to say, not a bad run is it, funkadelic, Parliament and Maceo Parker. Was he sporting a rather stunning looking Jazz shaped bass made by Brubacker Guitars? Quote
spiltmilk_2000 Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 Yes! Awesome looker and great tone... But then again I'm sure anything would sound good in his hands :-) Quote
