gafbass02
So this is what happened. I swapped a jazz for a stingray. I wanted one like my old natural '92 'The one that got away' But I was impatient, and settled for a slightly tatty, kinda boring mid 00's one in black. I hate black guitars. Except with gold hardware. You see, growing up, the JPS lotus F1 car was the coolest thing ever. Except for the Bandit's Trans Am! So last time I ended up with a black bass, I knew exactly what I wanted to do, it was this Geddy: So I hit the body with with some T-Cut, gorgomyted the frets etc, sanded the neck, sent the hardware off to be plated, fitted a tort guard, set up the hell out of it, and then hit the spray can on the headstock. I've never sprayed anything before ever. At all. Ever. So this was a learning process! One my wife made me finish early due to the stinky house! One set of stick on blocks later and I ended up with this : I'll just add here. *Very politely* That if you are one of those, um, 'odd' (imho)types, that frequent the eb** forum, and turn (passive)/aggressively on anyone that messes with B*g P*ppa's baby. I respect your right to be that way. BUT its my bass, and I hate that purist stuff, so please just don't. This time, Just bite your tongue, suck in through your teeth and calmly click on past without clicking on the keyboard. Thanks Anyway, hope you like it, my first stingray project, and I'm kinda pleased with it. Blocks may stay or go. I'll decide in time. I'm mulling a gold competition stripe too, but probably won't this time! Edited November 19, 2015 by gafbass02
rubis
I like it I hope you don't think me rude, but I have some bridge parts and control knobs I would like to get gold plated to go on my Blingray in my avatar, where did you send yours to and how much did they charge? Did you get the gold decal made up specially too?
gafbass02
I did, from Rothko and frost, the plating company I forget but they were awful! Expensive and took ages :-/
Cato
It's beautiful as it is, but I can't help trying to imagine it with a gold pick guard. I reckon it would look tremendous.
John_P
Fantastic - if MM did one like that it would sell well imo. Great work.
fretmeister
I like modded 'rays. My 5 string has a pair of massive EMG buckers in it. The EBMM forum guys deleted my post!
ColinB
You've done a fantastic job with that. It looks really good.

Paulhauser
I like it a lot! I'm a sucker for block inlays so thats a bonus for me. (and just like the OP I don't like black basses......)
Jonesy
I love black basses and block inlays, I hate MMs....................apart from yours. Ace job. Stick some brass strings on it and it'll really shine!!
gafbass02
Cheers folks. :-) I really fancy a set of gold strings on there. I tried maxima years back but hated them. I bet there's a better option now
Subbeh
Not a fan of the gold but loving the tort, blocks and matching headstock! Considered a tug bar? That'd look pretty sweeeet Edited November 21, 2015 by Subbeh

MoonBassAlpha
Just a quick question, what is the deal with the g string, looks offset on the saddle and the pickup?
gafbass02
Thanks all. Good eyes on the G, it was just not sitting in the saddle groove correctly. I noticed afterwards

Woodinblack
I would have gone with the gold pickguard, as I don't like tort. Although to be fair I never liked stingray guards, and I would have tempted to go without one. But then I would have also been tempted to gold plate the pickup pole pieces! gafbass02
I might try a gold, I did think about the polepieces, but didn't want to risk damage.
Roland Rock
how about a pickguard in the form of the gold number circle from the front of the Lotus? (It would be oval obviously, but could still look pretty cool) Edited November 22, 2015 by Roland Rock
gafbass02
That's kinda cool. The JPS logo would look good too, I came pretty close to making it a full on trans am themed bass, but decided to go for more understated.
