bubinga5
Not just some of the best music I've ever heard, but some of the best bass playing ever recorded imo. Anthony Jackson on the first (his bass playing is just so wonderful) and Marcus Miller on the second record. can anyone tell me what record Willie Weeks played on.? JTUK
Was long on my turntable as the 'best' album in my formative years and AJ was a BIG influence Happened to talk to Hamish Stewart about it at a local gig as he was BV on a few tracks. All round education....and in house stories.
JTUK
I'll dig the album out for who did waht but I think the main section was Steve Ferrone and Anthony Jackson, IIRC. Willie Weeks did just the one track..??

I don't like Marcus Miller though. Anthony Jackson did a lot of playing on a really early Chaka album, who's name escapes me now, the playing however was quite simply sublime. lowdown
not from Naughty but this is an all time favourite. fantastic bass from Abraham Laboriel
Yep, AL on electric Bass, although most of the Bass lines are David Foster on Moog Bass. It's such a brilliant arrangement. I love the way the tune modulates to accommodate Charlie Parkers original recorded four bar break, very clever stuff. Top, top playing and singing all around. I read somewhere long ago (IIRC) that Marcus Miller was in his teens when he recorded 'Naughty', and before the famous Pre-Amp was put into his Bass. It certainly sounds like a very Passive Jazz Bass. The OP should open up the thread to include favourite CK tracks. It would run for years...Lol... Certainly one of my favourite singers. TKenrick
This is also a great track from Naughty with AJ on bass, I did a transcription of it a while ago which can be found here: IMHO Anthony Jackson's playing on Chaka's 'Naughty' and 'What Cha Gonna Do For Me' albums represents the high point of his career. I saw him with Hiromi last week in London and he's still as incredible as ever, but I still think the Chaka stuff is the best representation of his playing style in a non-fusion environment. chardbass
I listened to this album and Whatcha Gonna Do For Me on a drive to a gig on Saturday. I hadn't listened to them for a while- the Brecker sax break out of "Move Me No Mountain" into "Naughty" is so beautiful and on the money. What a tone- he's so badly missed. So much good bass material on those albums. Jaw dropping AJ lines- the only (fractional) solace being that he didn't come up with them on the spot!
