Shipping a Large and Heavy Item

I'm trying to get a quote for shipping a mixing desk. Unfortunately it weighs more than 50kg which is the limit for InterParcel.

In its packaging it's going to be in the region of 65kg and the size is 120 x 90 x 50 cm.

UPS have quoted me £200.

Can anyone recommend me another good but cheaper service?

Would it be worth looking at something like a removals firm or a "man with a van" type thing?

You might find someone prepared to do it through Shipley. I had a Mesa 2x15 moved from one end of the country to the other by a guy who was doing the opposite journey to deliver a dog. Cost next to nothing compared to a courier

Why don't you send smaller (lighter) boxes?

At that size you'll be looking at a pallet I'd think. If you can get it onto a pallet then this looks quite good - tried their calculator and it was under £50

I was in a similar position yesterday trying to sort moving a comparable size and weight.

You put the collection and delivery postcodes in and a few other parameters then wait for the quotes from various Man/Woman and van companies to roll in - give it a couple of hours.

Eventually settled for a guy charging £70 for the equivalent of a 300 mile round trip with same day delivery.
