zawinul Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 brilliant , very Scott Walkerish, Bowie back on form, just really love his voice... Quote
Dad3353 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Once again, very 'left field'. The video, more still than the music or lyrics, strikes me as being quite allegorical, and about as modern as current affairs. Timely, thought-provoking, but can the blind see that all is in the eye of the beholder..? On a lesser, more 'musical' note, excellent, imaginative, drumming. Top stuff; this lad will go far. Quote

GarethFlatlands Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Love it. Been a really casual Bowie fan over the years but I've been learning a lot of basslines of his due to joining a Bowie covers band recently and I'm actually taking notice that he's got a new album out. Good job it sounds like it's going to be great if this is anything to go by. We've got a gig next Friday and we're going to try and learn this for it! pineweasel Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Great track. Very interested to hear the album. He's got some excellent musicians playing on it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34866235 Edited November 20, 2015 by pineweasel Quote
KevB Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Interesting but I don't think that drumming in the verses of the first half does anything for the song at all. I know it's supposed to be like that to make it more disconcerting and edgy but it's just too much. Otherwise I quite like it. Quote
visog Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) Love the song... video is a bit Mighty Boosh at the end...? Edited November 21, 2015 by visog Quote

toneknob Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 We'll all be "doing the Blackstar" at Christmas parties this year Quote
PaulWarning Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I do think he shouldn't be doing hallucinogenic drugs at his age, or perhaps permanent damage has already been done Quote
blamelouis Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Love it ...."your the flash in the pan...I'm the great I am" Never a truer word said. Quote
Oopsdabassist Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 Nice to know it's not just me then, a mate of mine linked it on FB and I just went WOW! After his last album which was a bit meh, this is all I like in Bowie, off the wall, weird arrangements, still a hook to catch us all, and yet another WTF?? video. God bless 'im I say!! Quote
mentalextra Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I understand that he is a class act, and hugely popular with musos, and as much as I'm embarassed to admit it, I just don't like him. And what's worse, I don't really know why? I'm surrounded by people that preach the gospel, and have done for years. But there, I've said it so beat me up Quote
kusee pee Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Loved it. Was a little disappointed that his last album wasn't more leftfield but this was impressively out there. Was cool watching the 'world premier' on Sky the other night. I was lucky enough to see Bowie live during his Outside tour, at a time when he once again was pushing the boundaries. Hope the new album is of a similar ambition. Quote
the boy Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I appreciate it but I honestly have to say I don't ever wanna hear or see it again. Quote
roceci Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Love Bowie to bits but this is horrible. Quote
Rumple Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I stumbled across the video while testing my Kodi systems internet connection this morning and I was transfixed for the full 9 odd minutes, much better than his other recent stuff, the video was most disturbing, in a good way. Quote
oldslapper Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Bowie....dividing opion, illiciting strong(ish) feelings both ways....and most importantly, people are talking about him. Back to his best. Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) Love it -he's back doing something that interests him, without pandering to the run of the mill "music scene". Good on him! Edited November 21, 2015 by kevin_lindsay Quote
spectoremg Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I like it. I haven't bothered with his new stuff but I will now. And Bowie's an icon, even The Laughing Gnome was a seminal work. Quote

Back to his best. [/quote] +1 As a life-long Bowie fan, it's fantastic to see him still pushing boundaries, taking risks and staying true to his artistic intentions.. He's truly inspirational I think! Thought the last album was a bit patchy in terms of song quality, but the first single from it - 'Where Are We Now' - was as good a Bowie song IMO as any from his really creative high point in the 70's. Can't wait for the new album now.. Quote
roceci Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 True about him staying different, good on him. Actually quite liked the last album. Still reckon the best work he did since Let's Dance was Stella Street tho Quote
