Hobbayne Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I,m sure all of our Basschatters would like to wish John a happy 70th birthday today. Even more so, after his recent cancer scare. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ul-cZyuYq4 Quote
andydye Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Happy birthday indeed to the man who put the Mac in Fleetwood Mac! beautiful bass lines underpinning iconic songs! Quote
KevB Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 A long and respected career, been in at least 2 great bands and got to get jiggy with Christine at her sexiest. Hate him. Quote
Coilte Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Happy birthday to an often under rated bass player. Quote
TheGreek Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Has written one of the most recognised basslines in history and I bet 95% of the population wouldn't even recognise his name... Happy Birthday... Quote

Happy Birthday...
I was going to post that one, but its towards the end and assumed that most people who dont know the slow bit would get bored and turn it off before the best bit. Quote
Marvin Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I played a couple of Fleetwood Mac songs in a band last year and loved playing those bass lines. McVie has great taste in what he plays IMO Quote
CrackerJackLee Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 (edited) John McVie... (Werewolves of London, eh?) His superb and tasteful playing peaked my interest in major pentatonic lines. He weaves the black-key notes into melodic, yet supportive bass lines that never seem repetitive, in spite of the real need to be concise in a band with a big sound. The lock-in between John McVie and Mick Fleetwood is phenomenal. Notice that the bass is so well played that the drums are free to explore polyrhythms. Edited December 9, 2016 by CrackerJackLee Quote
chris_b Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 (edited) 70? That's an achievement! The first bass player I saw on a gig. Playing with John Mayall at The Georgian Club, Cowley, Uxbridge. Amazing bass player through all those years with Clapton then Peter Green. All those guys rearranged my brain cells, made time stand still and made me want to be a part of that world. Yank Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 A bass player's bass player. Plays what the song needs.......drunk or sober. Quote
chris_b Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016
That was last year, he'll be 71 by now
So he is. . . . even better. Quote
