JustaBass
Just bought this geddy jazz thought I would go all jaco.. and remove the pickguard. Can anyone tell me what that great big round hole is... I thought the bodies had no other routing... Also my pick guard has 10 holes and not 11 like a lot of them... One extra hole is usually in front of the front pickup..and on the back is a serial number?. Any thoughts advice would b appreciated. bubinga5
The hole is to do with the CNC machine that carves the bass body as well as the pickup routing etc..
gsgbass
10 Screws on the PG, is proper amount for most newer Jazzes. Nice wood on your GL. I just got one in Black, and changed out the PG, and strings.

Conan
Is that the MIM version? IME the routing on the Japanese ones is immaculate and the bass looks great without a scratchplate...

Meanwhile the US Standard model has an open rout from the neck pickup down to the controls...doh!
JustaBass
Thinking of getting the body sprayed Arctic white... With a white perloid.. pickguard.. When funds become available... Have always liked white basses... Think it would look pretty good. Thanks to all for comments.. Edited December 3, 2015 by JustaBass
LewisK1975
Considered this as well - The sunburst Geddy Lee looks great without the plate, I thought about just getting some kind of cool sticker to cover the hole up..
Manton Customs
If you were to have it refinished, it'd be a fairly simple job for the luthier doing the refinish to fill that hole (with matching wood) before painting.
Iain
I'm surprised as I've never seen these holes on even the cheapest copies. Look for images of SX bass bodies online and they don't have it.
The US Ged doesn't have anything unpleasant under the scratch plate - no hole, no routing, decided it didn't look right without the plate on though. odysseus
If the Geddy Lee bass were mine, and I was dead set on having it without a pickguard, I would print out a high quality copy of the man off of the 2112 album and sink it under a layer of clear epoxy!
Strong in this one the Force is! JustaBass
Yes.. Agree simple job to fill the hole.. Will have this done whenfunds are available... Maybe some side dot LEDs as well.
