AinsleyWalker
Ok so since being on here I've seen 'gas' used a lot when talking about wanting new gear etc, I get what it means and what context it makes sense it, but where does the word come from? Is it an acronym haha? Cheers

TheGreek
It means that you're almost certainly doomed to acquire more gear than you actually need while still maintaining that you need more...Incurable??? I'd say so...
rungles
Could also be 'Gear Aquisition Syndrome' if you're not into guitars. I believe it's a condition that many different kinds of musicians suffer from.

BassBus
There have been a number of folks on hear who profess to be free from it. Denial is a terrible thing. There is no escape. Mwahahaha!

jonnythenotes
It's just a bass players way of saying ' Black Hole' and 'Money Pit' in three easy letters. An irresistible and uncontrollable urge to spend money on anything to do with bass gear. Womens equivalents ( and some none bass players) are handbags and shoes..... colgraff
From a long time ago, I remember in the TA, we suffered from SKS: Shiny Kit Syndrome which was used to mean stealing anything from stores/armoury that you could while on manoeuvres. Bigjas
GAS is a terrible affliction that can strike at any time. I have been suffering from a particularly heavy bout of GAS over the last few months. It has eased a little recently but I know it will be back.... leftybassman392
Thankfully I don't suffer from this one any more now that I've retired from active service - no, really - although I was sorely tested by Whynot's recent Warwick Streamer sale... However I did have a philosophy of any instrument earning it's keep over it's lifetime with me - quite often it worked too... Rikki_Sixx
I have to admit it took me a while to realise what GAS stood for too (though I understood the context). I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt the need to ask
