Funky Dunky Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6785645/scott-weiland-stone-temple-pilots-dead Former Stone Temple Pilots.and Velvet Revolver frontman found dead on tourbus. At present, cause of death is either undetermined or unannounced. I've been a fan of the guy's music and his voice since the first STP album. Quote
ubit Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 That's very sad, he was a great singer. I love both STP and Velvet Revolver. He did have a problem with drugs apparently. 48 is no age Quote
Funky Dunky Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 Yeah, a lot of people expected this years ago. He had a few bad dalliances with the heroin and there were times it looked like he might not survive to work again. Scott was an enigma, and had a taste for drugs, but like Layne Staley and Kurt and others, undeniably talented. The first two 'Pilots albums are still regularly played in my house. Quote
Conan Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Damn . Plush is one of my favourite tracks. Great voice and will be missed - certainly by me Quote
NancyJohnson Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Addiction. A horrible, but unshocking and early end. Loved early STP. Quote
NickD Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 He always wanted to be like Layne Staley... now he is. RIP Fella. Quote
HazBeen Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Damn..... 48, 2 kids left behind. RIP, you will be missed. Quote
madshadows Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Such a shame, feel for his family. a tragic loss John Quote
PauBass Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Very sad news Loved he's singing and work in all the bands he was involved. Quote
Daz39 Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Yep - echo that: unique voice, great swagger. STP were an awesome band in the 90s, staple of my Uni days. Quote
LayDownThaFunk Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Caught me off guard that one, RIP. Quote
FlatEric Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Oh dear. Recently been learning Fall to pieces (we used to do Slither) and have really enjoyed listening to him sing. 48! ? Really bad news. Quote
RandomBass Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Shame. Core was a seminal piece of work, especially Crackerman. Quote
Lozz196 Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) Oh no, Velvet Revolver were one of my faves and I thought Scott Weiland was a great singer and front-man. His drug problems have been well documented but this is still rotten news. Edited December 4, 2015 by Lozz196 Quote
Chiliwailer Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Really sad, STP are the only band I followed from first album to last and loved them all, Scott's melodies were just so good. RIP. Quote
Grassie Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Adored STP. Loved Velvet Revolver and was lucky enough to see them in 2008, just before Scott quit. One of the last great frontmen, derailed by drugs and demons, but always armed with a melody and a great voice. Now playing "Thank You" at not inconsiderable volume. RIP Scott. x Quote
Subbeh Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I wish I could say it was a surprise . He was a great singer though, been listening so STP a lot lately and some of his stuff still blows me away. RIP Quote
odysseus Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 He lived life to the full for sure, but it's always a shame when someone creative checks out early. RIP dude. Quote
Merton Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 STP were one of the bands with whom I grew through my teenage years; I was lucky to see VR in 2004 and Scott was incredible. One of the best rock singers of his generation, as easily identifiable as Layne Stayley or Eddie Vedder. Will be listening to a lot of STP this weekend Quote
Damonjames Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I've been struggling with this today, we play a lot of his stuff in our set, think it's 5 songs all in. It will take on a different feeling when we play on the 20th. As many have said, he had some problems, and most unfortunately burned a lot of his bridges with the guys he made amazing music with. As has been said, there is no other words that sum it up like "waste"... That band up there just keeps getting better... Quote
Roland Rock Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 That's really sad. STP were a great band (saw them at Rock City circa 1994) RIP Quote
