MacDaddy Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 There's not enough love for Larry on Basschat, so here's one of my fave Graham Central Station songs, one of many that I have [s]blatantly ripped off[/s] been directly influenced by: and here's a solo. Cool as Quote
Lynottfan Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Big Fan of the man, very entertaining live, pleasure to talk to, one of the greatest bass players going, truly inspirational, but for me his work with Sly and the Family Stone is still the best, the band was so original and him and Greg Errico an amazing partnership, love it when the two of them and butch get together on his instruction vid, plus he always plays a real cool looking bass, plenty of power to brother Larry. Cairobill Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 This is one of my all time favourite Larry Graham lines. Anti Love Song - Betty Davis....very, very, very funky! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0nJ2LSabQ8 Quote
Funky Dunky Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 I love this guy! He doesn't get nearly enough love, here or anywhere else. Too bad about his nephew, sullying the family name with his gibberish. Quote
Yes to all that. So sad the original line up of S&TFS lost Cynthia Robinson ( Trumpet) last week. Cynthia Robinson was 71 years young. Blue Edited December 5, 2015 by blue Quote
40hz Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Larry is the boss, probably only one of 3 bass players who can make slap bass sound good. The mans groove and vibe is unparalleled. A true pioneer. Quote
SICbass Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Yep, very good call and congrats to the OP for having the scariest avatar on BC Quote
andy67 Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I'm sure Larry was instrumental for the slap bass break in powers station's 'get it on' cover? Sure there was a behind the scenes with him and the band where Larry was teaching John Taylor how to slap. Quote
Cato Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I've only recently discovered Graham Central Station. The first 3 albums are fantastic, up there with the very best funk/soul classics. Quote
Lynottfan Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Andy67 that was actually Bernard Edwards showing and doing the slap part on Get it on. Quote
andy67 Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Ah awesome 😎 didn't know that. Tried to source the behind the scenes but unsuccessful so far. Quote
BottomE Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Lots of love from here too. Just added a Sly and the Family Stone tune to the set list - goes down well and is probably one of the funkiest tunes we play. Has a great groove with the spaces in exactly the right place Quote
