Leonard Smalls Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I think you'll find that this is actually "Nice" Quote
MoonBassAlpha Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Hah, that's Frankfurt, nowhere near Nice. Quote
Daz39 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Mmm, Wunderbar. I am still at the fusion end of Jazz: Mahavishnu, Al Di Meola, and some Jaco in there too. I listen to some other Jazz and have to tell myself to stop wondering where the chorus is or when they'll just hit the V chord and relieve that tension. Got to admire the skill though: I'm not sure I have enough fingers; perhaps getting a Chapman Stick would open my mind enough to cope with it... Quote
Bilbo Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015
I like Tom and Jerry. Does that count?
No. That's more like Stravinsky. There is plenty of modern Jazz that does not sound like it did 50 years ago but which IS Jazz, as opposed to fusion, Jazz Funk etc. Go find it. You will enjoy the journey!! Quote

Old Man Riva Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Here are three that can get overlooked but are well worth having a listen to... all lovely in their own unique way, IMHO. Leonard Smalls Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) "Layin' in the cut" by James Carter is an excellently groovy album featuring Calvin Weston, Jamaaladeen Tacuma on bass and Marc Ribot on guitar: Edited December 10, 2015 by Leonard Smalls Quote
Assuming you're Android, it might be worth checking for software updates. I had that issue for about the past 6 weeks, then just this week it's all back to normal. I'm assuming it was an automatic update that sorted it. Quote
Painy Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 Yeah it is indeed Android. I'll Check for updates then (its driving me nuts)! Cheers. Quote
ubit Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 http://youtu.be/QYkJ0M1bUIU And Tom sure plays a mean bass! Quote
lowdown Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) I read an article a very long time ago, written by a String player on the 'Tom & Jerry' sessions. When looking at his diary, he would start to freak out and get anxious as the dreaded 'T & J' sessions approached. They had very little rehearsal times for the episodes. Terrifically skilled musicians having ago here. Makes Jazz look easy. Edited December 10, 2015 by lowdown Quote
bassace Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Great playing, but it ain't jazz. Not by a country mile. Quote
lowdown Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 ^^ Of course it's not. It was just a nod to the posts above. Quote
