MythSte Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Well i went into My local Sound Control Today and saw a beautiful Spector Euro, I honestly didnt pay attention to the exact model, But i think it was the same as the one tht was recently reviewed on this site. Natural, PJ Config, about 900 quid. Anyway, It sounded brilliant through an ampeg combo they had out. But the Pickups just got in my way, the curved back just put things at a wierd angle, the screws on the side of the pickups where too curved and my thumb slipped off them. All silly stuff which left me quite dissapointed! But i know this bass works wonders for so many people. Are there any basses you just simply cant understand how other people get so much out of? Discusssss. Quote
warwickhunt Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Any bass that isn't a Warwick or Spector... especially a Fender Great big flat slabs of wood that don't curve and feel uncomfortable Quote
Kiwi Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Most 80-90's Gibson basses leave me wondering why they bothered to cut the trees down in the first place. I'm not a huge fan of Gibson basses over all but that period seems a particularly pointless waste to me. Also my old Westone Spectrum 2 bass. Apart from that I can see merit in most things I've tried. Quote
bassboy115 Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 thunderbirds...the shape doesnt agree with me...which is a shame as they look gorgeous. I never used to really get on with EB either Quote

Every couple of years I get gas for a Rick, y'know, black/white thing. I toddle off to Electro and play one for 5 minutes then I realise why I never bought one. Shame they look so sweet. On the Warwick thing though - hate the balance (Thumb), neck dive and weight but gotta love the sound - made me persevere. Edited July 9, 2007 by martthebass Quote

I've tried soooo many times to get on with the Thumb but it just doesn't happen. Not through neck dive just the combination of 26 fret neck, small body, short upper horn/bout means that the first position is just so far out that I don't get it! Quote

Alun Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Rickenbackers and Stingrays - both look and sound fantastic but I just can't get comfortable on either. Alun Quote
Kiwi Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 oh yes, add me to the rick list. They're a bass I think is made for playing with a pick rather than fingers. Quote
warwickhunt Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 + another one for Rickies as they are just bigger and flatter than a big flat flat thing in flat land! Quote
MB1 Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 MB1. I know it started with LEO but ive got to admit im just not a FENDER man,ive never been able to get on with any of them. However without him i feel i may not be able to express a preference today, would be Double Bass Chat, not as catchy eh?. MB1. Quote
Josh Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) Precisions as well, I tried one and just couldn't get comfortable, the positioning of the p'up was nasty and the tone was just as bad, they're far to large, heavy and I can respect the precision was the father of all basses but I just couldnt see what the fuss is. thumbo Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 BC Rich. I guess I don't need to explain why I find these uncomfortable. For a full list of basses that are designed to dig into your ribs visit www.bcrich.com/bass Quote

That's actually a vintage '66 Jazz bass - not a P-bass (not that I don't LOVE Precisions though!). Quote
paul, the Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Necks are the biggest problem as I have small hands. I'm happy with a jazz neck, but would prefer something a little chunkier whilst still being rounded at the back. Quote

stingrayfan Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Another Rickenbacker-don't-getter here. Great sound but playing one feels like playing an ironing board. Plus struggle to get comfy with a lot of Fenders - feel too big and too old fashioned. Quote
