Just like the moribund Henley Regatta mob of today - I looked up Medneham Abbey (I used to live nearby)...It was a failed hotel, back in the day. The village pub (Dog & Badger) had gone bust last time I went through.... The Manor used to get it's feet wet (it's by the river) Load of twaddle about 18c prostitutes & the like Which brings us back quite neatly to the 'hoose' band (Twaddle that is, not prossies) IMO terms & conditions apply........ We played a welcome to England party at Cliveden House for a bunch of US students just in from Stanford University in 1969. If you reckon the English were class conscious you should have seen that lot in action. We were a typical Brit. psychedelic, progressive blues band of the day and they were asking us to play Sinatra, Bobby Vee type stuff. - seriously. Except for one guy who was not wearing a tie and had slightly longer hair than the rest of the US males there. He had a stash of good stuff hidden out in the garden, Gawd bless him.
