John Lydon's latest book is quite revealing about what went on with Sid before, during and after the Pistols. Seems like he was a half-wit with security issues who wanted to be the next Bowie and became dangerously smitten with the New York Dolls' smackhead lifestyle and image. I feel sorry for the guy really.

And it looks like McLaren had no qualms about exploiting that :(

If you listen to the soundcheck for the Pistols' final Winterland gig, you can hear what Sid is doing. Nothing innovative, but he wasn't completely untalented.

Yep, and the live clip of No Feelings in The Great Rock n Roll Swindle, before he was hooked on smack. He`d only just got in the band then I believe, and though his playing wasn`t wonderful, nowhere near as bad as he`s been made out.

And to be honest, visually SV had a great image, with that low-slung Precision and his simple Ramones style punk gear. Plus a not bad singing voice either.
