Agwin
Anyone visited Guitar Spares & Repairs in Northampton St, Birmingham recently? I’ve been phoning regularly on the days they are open but no one ever answers and you can’t leave a message. Has something dreadful befallen Joe? yorick
Nobody seems to know for definite. I haven't seen him for a couple of months as he sometimes nips into PMT. He has a few health ups and downs.
Agwin
Thanks, I guessed there was some kind of issue. Hope he's ok
Subbeh
I was going to drop my bass in tomorrow but the website says he's closed down. Anyone know anything more? He did great work whenever I had anything that needed fixing or setting up.
Subbeh
Or failing that, can anyone personally recommend somewhere in Birmingham for a setup? The little guitar shop also in the Jewelry Quarter is the only other place I can think of, PMT of course but last time I saw their tech he seemed far more interested in his game of thrones books than doing any work. That time Guitar Spares and Repairs (Joe) sorted me out, gutted that they seem to be gone Edited February 27, 2016 by Subbeh
Agwin
Just had my 78 Precision back after a total refret, some basic sorting out of the electrics, a tidy scratchplate repair and a set up. (Which is why I was asking about Joe in the first place) Bob Barry 70 Fozbrooke Rd Small Heath B10 9JX 0121 772 4873 It helps if you like cats too - and have time to stop and chat

seashell
I've just had my truss rod sorted at the Little Guitar Shop. They did a great job and the price was very reasonable. I used to take my bass to PMT - they're OK for a basic set up, but didn't manage to diagnose my truss rod problem. So it will be the Little Guitar Shop for me in future. Subbeh
Thanks for the recommendations! much appreciated. Unfortunately the little guitar shop guys were at the guitar show today, but it sounds like I'd be better off waiting for them than trying PMT. tauzero
That's a shame about Joe, he did a great piece of work for me defretting and reprofiling a 2000 (fatneck) Warwick Thumb to the same neck profile as my JD Thumb.
Machines
I've had good experiences with Phil at PMT and so has my Dad, but they have always been electronics.
