Funky Dunky
I do love it when he starts chugging with a pick and his legs join in - the epitome of groove.
There's a video of him on youtube doing a clinic, and he starts talking about Tower Of Power. He plays the bassline to 'What Is Hip?' Bobby Vega style, and the legs start going. Cracked me up so much I rewound it about twenty times!
Funky Dunky
I've tried to do what Bobby does, and it sounds cool, but absolutely nowhere near as cool as Bobby's playing. He's amazing. Just a monster, monster, monster player. Cody Wright has a similar thing going, and he's fab, but Bobby is the daddy of pickstyle grooves. bubinga5
I love Bobby Vega. He is out there on his own with his breadth of technique's and musicality. And that palm muting is great. ivansc
Interesting - bet he is not far off my age. We ALL started out playing with a pick back then it seems. Just that some of us are better than others!

I've had the good fortune to see live Jaco, Marcus, Stanley, Victor, Squire, King, Entwistle, Garrison, League, Manring but had never listened to Bobby Vega til I played this. WOW! What a player, what tone, what a groove! Love the Zep riffs. If anyone loves bass & hasn't seen this then please watch it. You'll grin from ear to ear! 😀👍

highwayman
This guy's playing makes everything sound brilliant (particularly that earlier Sly Stone number). Playing with a plectrum feels natural to me & it's good to know that BV was doing it before my main 80's influences. BTW V-Picks rule! ivansc
Funny - I finally bowed to peer pressure in 1983 and started using my fingers instead of a pick. Happily, I can still use a pick pretty well although not in the same league as Mr V. And as always so much of the technique revolves around two handed muting.
