dudewheresmybass Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 (edited) I'm having a problem with the power switch on my Marshall DBS 7400 head. There seems to be an issue getting the switch to work consistently. Marshall have now informed me that they can not supply me with the parts for health and safety reasons. Can anyone help me source a replacement? The switch looks like this The side of the switch has markings which include 250v~ac t100 10 (6)a 250vac 12a Cheers guys Edited December 13, 2015 by dudewheresmybass Quote
mikeydee Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 You could try spiratronics bits box and even eBay. Just check the mm dimensions of the switch to get a good replacement. Google image search is really useful for finding a match. It might not have the same markings on it but need same number of connections Mike Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted December 13, 2015 Author Posted December 13, 2015 Cheers mate. It's 20.5 mm wide and 14 mm high Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 (edited) After speaking to my local electrical supplier, I looked on the rs website. I entered what looked like a part number, I found the part I was looking for. £1.39 with free next day delivery plus vat if ordered online 😀 For future reference the rs number is 2284581 Edited December 14, 2015 by dudewheresmybass Quote
Dad3353 Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I'm surprised that they'd sell you the parts, for health and safety reasons. Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) That's right. Marshall no longer supply parts to the public. I would have to use one of their recommended repairers. Cue bill of £30-£40+ for something I can easily do my self!!! Edited December 15, 2015 by dudewheresmybass Quote
iiipopes Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Typical - just another means to squeeze more money out of the working musician. Yes, it sounds like you got the right replacement part. Be careful with the soldering as sometimes other parts are in critical proximity. Good luck with the installation. Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 No soldering at all. Spade connectors ftw! It took a grand total of 2 mins to install the new switch, and everything powers up perfectly, with none of the previous issues Quote
Dad3353 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 OK, now you can go for a job on the assembly line building Marshalls..! Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 I'd have to move abroad though Quote

What next..? Refusal to sell eggs in case of salmonella..? No more milk available for fear of tuberculosis, or getting one's head stuck in the carton..? Unable to buy a lettuce to stop anyone choking on a soggy leaf..? I'm quite OK with H & S; there are exaggerations sometimes, though. Maybe Marshall shouldn't sell cabs at all, in case they fall on someone..? Tosh, I say. Edited December 26, 2015 by Dad3353 Quote
BILL POSTERS Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Might be that the electrical wholesaler is selling a generic switch, but Marshall are selling a specific replacement part for equipment with design specs. Quote
Marshall probably get them from the same place RS or Farnell do, but if they sell them its as a spare part for an amp. RS or Farnell sell them as a switch, and afaik RS at least will only deal with bona fide trade customers, who should know what they are doing when they choose the one they need and fit it. Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 The switch I bought from rs is exactly the same as the one I removed from the amp. Same part number Quote
BILL POSTERS Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 That will be the switch manufacturers number. Marshal dont make them they buy them in. Its a generic part. Quote
planer Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Sounds like a good fix to me. Profit-related decision by Marshall I'd bet. Good for you finding the proper part from another source. Quote

I think the OP got the part from RS. Farnell will now sell to joe public, I have a Farnell account, only need a credit card to set up. Got some pots, chips, Neutrik jacks and caps from them. Just be carefull you check you are ordering UK stock and not US stock, which carries a big shipping charge. Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 As a self employed musician/ teacher I have a business name, so I had no problems ordering from rs. I also have a Cpc account too. I've had it around 6 years Quote
BILL POSTERS Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I been dealing with RS since they were called Radiospares, the first trade account I ever had. Expensive, but generally better quality than the cheaper ones. Even a few years ago you needed a trade account and a rep had to call on you a couple of times a year Quote
pfretrock Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 I also remember Radiospares, even before they sold chips and they had a catalogue that was about 20 pages long. Also remember the rep's bad jokes. Quote
