Rock Music Scene - Dubai

Does anyone have recent experience of the rock music scene in Dubai/UAE as I am relocating out there for work reasons and keen to get involved in a new band!

Open minded but more than likely rock original or tribute (I know - not everyone's cup of tea but pays well and fairly easy to get great gigs!)

Is there much going on out there and is there much chance of gigging regularly - any info would be appreciated.

I know there is a rock covers band called Sandstorm for whom a friend of mine played bass. Try googling them - their logo is a camel based version of Motorhead's.

I've a pal who, when he lived out there, used to organise punk gigs for his (and other) bands. By all accounts, there wasn't a thriving scene for this genre (not sure about rock though), and it does seem to be quite underground. It might be different for a band playing covers in the tourist hotels, but as a resident he had quite a few difficulties even getting venues to allow him to put the shows on.
