I think it's quite common on electro acoustic basses, even the budget Harley Benton model has one.

I would guess that its harder to fit an inconspicuous integrated tuner into a solid body & manufacturers know that the majority of bass players will already own some sort of tuning device?

Having said that I'm sure some manufacturer somewhere will have done it at some point.

The logical thing to do would be to install one using side LED dots on a neck. Octave dots = in tune. Either side sharp or flat. It all sounds so easy.

Agreed.....I got to say though, after 30 years of playing I never even bought my 1st tuner until a few years ago

Whittman Spins do a tuner that can be fitted into the bass. Also Bass Surgery basses came fitted with a similar integral tuner.

I am on a roll here. Surely someone could make a tuner which would fit into a volume pot.

That already exists, look for N-Tune. No specific bass version, so dunno if it's bass suitable (and I couldn't find an official website on cursory search)

Also see the Epiphone E-Tuner - built into the pickup ring. Again, a guitar specific application (I could probably fit it to my Epi LP bass though ;) )

How about one you could retro fit so that it screwed in with the backplate of a machine head? Always there but invisible from the front.

I use a TC Polytune clip from which I removed the clip and attached to the back of my headstock. Works a treat!

I like having gadgets built into my bass

Ped - how do you see that? I've just tried looking at the back of the headstock on a couple of my basses when they are on the strap and it's impossible without holding them at a very weird angle...

Never mind the tuner... Who are those little guys on the pegs?...!

Those are my 'Tuner Friends' - they are employed to maintain my required tunings.

Easy - perhaps it's because the headstock is raked back a little bit but I can just lean the bass forward a bit and see it clearly - oh and as a teacher I have eyes in the back of my head, too ;p

TBH the bass rarely needs tuning but it's good to know it's there.

I'm going to get one of those little monkeys to sit on the head stock & do the tuning for me , I better get it some ear defenders & i suppose I better get Jon Shuker to adjust the balance of the bass .

Boo, did some digging and the E-Tuner (actually a Shadow product) doesn't go low enough for bass - bottom frequency response is 66Hz according to docs. No built in cleverness for me then :(
