bonnp
Hi, i want a PJ bass but my budget is limited maybe around £300 max, unless there is a really good one out there for more money that would be a lot better? any ideas? thanks
Coilte
Personally, I would go the extra £100 or so, and get a G&L SB2 Tribute. You may get cheaper on here if you wanted to go the second hand route. A winner either way IMO. http://www.ebay.co.u...=p2045573.m1684 http://www.glguitars...2_new/index.asp EDIT : One thing worth pointing out, that some may not like is that the pots are both for volume with no tone pot. If that's an issue then a slight upgrade would solve it. Edited December 19, 2015 by Coilte
Roger2611
If you can find a Japanese Precision Lyte for around that price I think you will be seriously impressed, they are really light, great fast necks and sound great. This is on Evilbay at the moment (I am not connected to the seller is any way but this is the same as mine and in a nicer colour) I think it's a reasonable price as well http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Precision-Bass-Lite-/321953261075?hash=item4af5e8e613:g:kmMAAOSwHjNWA8q8
Cato
New, there's a lot of love for the Yamaha BB range. A new BB424 should come in at just under £300. There's nothing much wrong with Squiers either. Those are the two I'm mainly looking at for when I plan to take the pbass with flats plunge in the new year. Second hand you can get all sorts of goodness in the £300-£400 range. There is a rumour (which I'm pretty sure I got from basschat) that Marcus Miller's Sire affiliate may be starting production on a pbass in the near future but I've no idea on the timescales on that. Paul S
There is a quality bitsa 'Hot rod' in the classifieds here being sold by Shonks. I've seen and heard it and would rate it a bargain for £250.

chris_b
I'd get a Squier P bass and replace the pickup and pots.

darren
Ibanez talman. One UN ivory and one in black
Naetharu
The Vintage Modified range from Squire seem to be very nice quality and great value for money. I'd recommend a try before you buy with them because the few I have played have varied a great deal in weight and wood grain quality - but find a good one and they're lovely. Subbeh
It'd be the Yamaha BB for me. They really do punch above their weight for what they cost, lovely sounding, great looking and well built.
Rich
The Overwater Tanglewoods (or Overwood Tanglewaters?) seem to go for incredibly reasonable 2ndhand prices.

discreet
I'll bung this in for the hell of it. £246. http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_sq_vm_precision_bass_pj_3ts.htm
HowieBass
Bass Collection Nanyo - and you'll probably get to keep half of your budget..
There's a Bass Collection Nanyo SB310 going for sale on here at exactly half the proposed £300 budget (note I'm not associated with the seller). If secondhand doesn't appeal then I'd also second looking at a Squier VM.
Truckstop
That bass collection would be a great buy. I'd nab it myself if I had the spare cash! I used to have a fiver and it was a really good quality instrument. Good tone controls, light weight and they look pretty good too if you don't mind non-traditional aesthetics. Can't go wrong with a Yamaha BB424. I've been using mine almost exclusively for the last two years and I bought mine second hand for £
oldbass
Try the Squire VM range. I bought one last year and didn't really expect much..have to say its a very nice bass for the money. Fit and finish are perfect, its light too and easy to play...doesn't have quite the tonal heft of my vintage P but the J PU is very handy for anything needing a bit of a Jaco burp!
