You may get cheaper on here if you wanted to go the second hand route. A winner either way IMO. There's nothing much wrong with Squiers either. Those are the two I'm mainly looking at for when I plan to take the pbass with flats plunge in the new year. Second hand you can get all sorts of goodness in the £300-£400 range. There is a rumour (which I'm pretty sure I got from basschat) that Marcus Miller's Sire affiliate may be starting production on a pbass in the near future but I've no idea on the timescales on that. I'd recommend a try before you buy with them because the few I have played have varied a great deal in weight and wood grain quality - but find a good one and they're lovely. [/quote] And (as if there was any doubt) they are very good. I've never had a fretted Yamaha BB (except the one with a maxed TR) but the fretless is very nice. [/quote] There's a Bass Collection Nanyo SB310 going for sale on here at exactly half the proposed £300 budget (note I'm not associated with the seller). I used to have a fiver and it was a really good quality instrument. Good tone controls, light weight and they look pretty good too if you don't mind non-traditional aesthetics. Can't go wrong with a Yamaha BB424. Fit and finish are perfect,its light too and easy to play...doesn't have quite the tonal heft of my vintage P but the J PU is very handy for anything needing a bit of a Jaco burp!
