Byo Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Hi all, Just wanted to ask if there is a topic around here or a "yellow pages" of luthiers where I could find the majority of the ones based in the UK. I am strongly thinking of having a custom based made in 2016 as I am a fed up of "off the shelf" stuff and I also fancy spoiling myself a little I am aware of a few like our own Alan @ AC Guitars which is currently one of my top selections, but would like to hear from your own experience. Cheers, Byron. Quote
Grangur Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Have you tried the Repairs and technical section? There's a thread called Recommend Luthiers. Quote
CamdenRob Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 (edited) BRX has an extensive list somewhere... I'll have a look for it. *edit* Can't seem to find an upto date one... Edited December 22, 2015 by CamdenRob Quote

Byo Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 Thank you so much for the list! That's going to keep me busy for a while! Cheers, Byron. Quote
TrevorR Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 (edited) Great list! But, does Graham Parker make basses? I thought that was a Rumour. I'll get me coat... ( and leave that Goodfellow basses punchline hanging there for the next person...) Edited December 22, 2015 by TrevorR Quote
dmckee Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I just had a beautiful bass made by Chris McIntyre, here in Edinburgh. Very very pleased with it. chriswilliams666 Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Eternal Guitars - www.eternal-guitars.com in West Sussex, have made me a few basses and I highly recommend their work. They also started Hot Rod pickups following Andy @ Wizard's retirement. Quote
Kev Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I would fully recommend that you have a conversation with Alpher Instruments, incredible craftsmanship and up there with the best of British builders Quote
Rikki_Sixx Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Martin Dixon up here in Yorkshire (he's in Otley, near Leeds) is very highly recommended. I've not tried any of his work but he's really helpful, passionate and friendly. I think you can go and stay with him (B&B style) and make a bass together, which sound fascinating! http://m.wharfedaleobserver.co.uk/news/1324891.Otley_craftsman_whose_guitars_are_a_real_work_of_art/ (I don't have his website, sorry!) krispn Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 dmckee I always thought about putting the original P pick up in a jazz config like that best of both worlds. Quote
