cocco Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I've had my trusty Sansamp BDDI for 10 years come January, while there's really nothing wrong with it, it would appear the market for gritty pedal preamps has exploded and I quite fancy a change. Whats good at the moment? Quote
Lozz196 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Tech21 VT DI is great if you want the Ampeg sound, would thoroughly recommend it - better mids than the BDDI. However the one I currently use is the Aguilar Tonehammer and I really like it. Sweepable mids, a really aggressive drive if needed, can go from modern sounding with big bottom end to really old-school, warm & gnarly, plus clean it also sounds really nice. Only possible downsides are needing an 18v PSU if you use PSUs, and it`s quite heavy. Quote
paul_5 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 DHA VT1 DI EQ. I've tried Sansamps, MXRs, Aguilars and kept coming back to the Dave Hall - if you want the sound of a valve being driven hard, then get a valve and drive it hard! Quote

[/quote] As you'll see from my signature there is no lack of valves in my rig. I've never heard of that one. I'm gonna Google it Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I'm a huge fan of the Tech 21 Leeds. It's pretty much the Hiwatt version of the VT Bass. Much more to my taste than the VT as I've never been a fan of the Ampeg sound. Quote
BigRedX Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Line 6 Pod of some description. Lots of tonal options plus effects and programability. Quote
shemeckfrac Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Anyone having any experience with the MXR M81 ? Quote
thodrik Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I have also had the Sansamp Bass Driver for the last 6-7 years. I have also tried the EBS Valvedrive, which was a lot more transparent but a pain in the whole to gig with (12v AC power supply, large pedal footbprint, valve pedal so more likely to go wrong) and Electro Harmonix English Muff'n (pretty much the same problems as the EBS but less flexible EQ and less good build quality, slightly more gritty sound though). The Darkglass pedals are getting good reviews at the moment. You could also look at the Rusty Box. Quote
ratman Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I recently got an Xotic Bass BB pre amp pedal. It doesn't overly colour my sound and the drive is lovely. I'm sure there are loads of You Tube videos demoing it. It's definitely worth considering. Quote
ahpook Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 It was a sound of its own but the Tronographic Rusty Box is by far the best sounding dirty pre pedal I've used. Quote
paulo m Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 EBS Microbass II...nothing comes close' functionality'build quality'Uncoloured Sound'in a 1st class design... Quote
sk8 Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 I've had BDDI VT Bass EBS Microbass EBS Valvedrive Darkglass B7K Behringer BDI The one I'm digging at the moment is the DHA VT1 DI EQ Mk2 Quote
Iheartreverb Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I've had a Behinger BDI21 and a Sansamp Deluxe. Settled currently on the MXR M80. Nice Eq and default colour if I want to DI from it, most of the time I use it to tweet what I'm sending into my Orange bass terror and then DI from the amp Quote
