Mykesbass
Well, the slightly more serious threads are getting ignored so I thought I'd enter into the spirit.

JapanAxe
Swing and be-bop. I may have a gig in January playing trad and swing, but thankfully it will not involve boaters and stripey blazers.

chris_b
Trad? Never! Just conjures up images of cardigans, Brylcreem and Hush Puppies. Dixieland, with the likes of Kid Ory and King Oliver, every time.

ambient
I played a few trad jazz gigs a couple of years ago. They were actually quite good fun.

Bobthedog
Having just listened to Bobby Hacket and Jack Teagarden's Coast Concert album, it has to be trad. Sublime Edited December 24, 2015 by Bobthedog

[/quote] I kind of thought that Trad was Dixieland, or at least the English take on it ? Either is fine by me. I'll happily play 'When the saints go marching in', over 'Summer of 69' or 'Sex on fire' . Edited December 25, 2015 by ambient
steve-bbb
Trad is fine for about 20 minutes on a friday on a full moon at the north pole ... in a sealed soundproof room did i say minutes? i meant milliseconds

You bloody softy lefty, being way too understanding and treehuggingly tolerant! 15 milliseconds! Bop anytime for me, yes. Trad gives me the wish to die on the spot. drTStingray
Both. Though I favour be bop. Trad reminds me of Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen - the bassist went over to a Gibson Grabber bass (fretless) in those heady days of mid 70s fusion - though they continued to play trad stuff IIRC!
