paulbass
Well after endless amounts of turkey and mince pies, the Mrs is watching her soaps and the kids are playing with their toys I decided to have a play on my bass. I'm in a bit of a rut with my playing at the moment and then I came across this track by Bowie. I'm not a massive fan of his but I thought I'd give this bassline a go and its a cheeky little line! Great fun to play I must say his band are bloody good! The bassist is actually the guitarist that just happens to play bass on this track. Lozz196
One of my fave Bowie songs, and a great bassline, even though I`m not a big fan of slap-bass.
Oopsdabassist
His normal bassist, Gail Ann Dorsey is playing rhythm on that track. I presume she doesn't slap, bit like me really....although I have more hair!

kusee pee
I remember seeing this version at the time. He added some nice little touches to the slap. Sounds great. I'd love to play it in my mind but it's not dancefloor enough for us.
sprocketflup
From a bit earlier in his career, Suffragette City is a cracking bassline to play IMO
RhysP
George Murray played on the original version. Great player, and along with drummer Dennis Davies made up one of my favourite rhythm sections of all time. Behlmene
Great topic! So many to choose from! Some of my fun favs are Pink Floyd's "Money", Steve Miller's "The Joker", and the theme song of the "Barney Miller" TV show. Toss in "Movin' on Up", the theme song of "The Jefferson's" TV show . LiamPodmore
Funhouse by P!nk, Where Is The Love by The Black Eyed Peas, and Runaway Baby by Bruno Mars are the first ones that spring to mind for me. Liam

Hobbayne
My band have recently covered The Zutons original version of Valerie, and although the bassline is quite simple - its fun to lock in and groove with the drummer.

roceci
PYT Michael Jackson is just one of the funnest, simple lines I've learned. Really chunky & on the groove, especially on the chorus. Another Part of Me is another fun MJ bass romp.
BrunoBass
The band have just added Let It Roll by Velvet Revolver to our set, which is great fun to play. I think Duff McKagen plays it with a pick but I play finger-style so it's quite fast and furious! We've also added Royal Blood's Out Of The Black and I love playing the section at the end - great fun!
chris_b
I have some gigs over the new year and the guitarist has added some Steely Dan, Josie, Rikki, Reeling in the Years and Revelation by Robben Ford. All good stuff.
Cato
Another vote for 'the Jackson 5' 'I want you back'. I can't explain it but there's just something very satisfying about the way the various sections fit together. It's also become part of my basic warm up routine as its great for getting all the necessary fingers moving. M@23
Master Blaster, one of my favourite songs and great bass throughout. I've just learnt Play That Funky Music and Disco Inferno for a NYE gig, I don't like either song much, but both have good grooves.
colgraff
An easy but fun bass line is Queen's Don't Stop Me Now. Really upbeat.
