This was it for a while, but I've got too many fretlesses and am tripping over them all. So this 2010 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass originally came with a horrid neck that wouldn't stay put. So I've had it replaced with a Status graphite fretless neck (sorry, the original horrid neck went on eBay for a pittance years ago). The work was done by Brighton luthier Bernie Goodfellow and I also got him to stick a Hipshot D-tuner on the E string. Prior to that I had EMG JV pickups fitted -- they're active pickups (battery under the bell plate) which are meant to retain the vintage sound while sorting out the hum and harsh edges. I like them lots. Sorry, the original pickups went on eBay too. You may be familiar with the Status replacement necks, but if not here's a link: [url="http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html"]http://www.status-gr...index_home.html[/url] For me, the graphite neck keeps all the growl and harmonics but removes some of the unwanted clank. The action will go ridiculously low if you wish. There's a double truss rod in there, accessed from the top. It's possibly overdue a tweakette by now. I've replaced the original tortoiseshell guard with a white one (from a Fender Standard instrument) because shell looked wrong. It's a player not a collector's item, but there's some serious hardware there. Somebody famous ought to buy it. Comes with the original Fender hard case. Located in Hove if you want a look.
