Mark - what is the backing track on that rather tasty sound bite, please?

Obviously I edited it and, er... 'produced' it somewhat. ;)

His relicing has really improved as you say. Looks great! Is there some nice lacquer checking going on?

I wonder if he's had FMIC sniffing around yet? These are gaining something of a reputation now so I wonder if a 'I do not apply Fender decals' notice will appear on the website soon?

Amazing though and hope it plays as well as it looks!

I believe he is going to unveil his own logo in the near future. The bass plays (and sounds) as good as it looks for sure, thanks. :)

That's good news. I hope it's in keeping with a classic Fender vibe, (and miles away from Bass Collection's)..

...I've been gassing for an 80's Siennaburst for ages, even though I can't live with 1.75" necks, and that one seems a very good price!
Ah, you will now. Start the year as you mean to go on...

I'm not sure about this guy. He's trying to sell a Ric on his site with a bolt-on neck!
Hunh..? What's a 'Ric'? This is a P-Bass thread! ;)

That's just what I thought. I think it needs a 'k' in it (relicking) but this makes it seem medieval. Maybe that's about right. :D

"Relicking" sounds like the act of having another lick of something that you licked earlier. It's a nice looking bass, but surely tongues would be taking things a bit far!

Really..? Oh, right. I'd never do that, of course... it would be very wrong. And weird.

How about 'RELLIKING'?

Damn. Why did you have to link to his website? I've been gassing for an 80's Siennaburst for ages, even though I can't live with 1.75" necks, and that one seems a very good price!

I will have to hold firm!
He's had that bass in for months. Cheeky offer?????

I don't know about re-licked but if I were Steve Dawson's bass I would certainly be distressed.

Thanks for the link. Dimwit that I am, it had never occurred to me that there might be play-a-long bassless tracks on YouTube

Hundreds of 'em! Variable in quality and usefulness of course, but there are some quite good ones to be had depending on your needs. They are a valuable tool for checking out different genres and also for keeping your hand in if you're 'between bands'. ;)

Quick update - my OCD got the better of me, finally. I originally specced a parchment guard (as in OP) for this bass, but every single Dakota P I've seen anywhere seems to have a green mint guard as standard. So I found an 'aged' USA mint P guard on eBay... you can't see the subtleties in this pic, but it's a great job, not overdone and fits very well with the overall level of relic. Pleased! :)

Now I can forget all about that and concentrate on actually playing it!

Some closer and more detailed pics of the 'aged' mint guard here... these people do a good job. Very plausible.

They also do distressed bodies in vintage colours - worth considering for a bitsa build.

He's sold it. Such is the ever-spinning carousel of Basschat GAS.

Well, it's not white. So it was never going to stay at Discreet Towers for long. It's days were always numbered.
