howdenspur Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Stunning bass - the parchment really brings out the red finish (I could say it makes it "pop", but I'd have to shoot myself). Nice one! Quote
Paul S Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Mark - what is the backing track on that rather tasty sound bite, please? Quote

MoonBassAlpha Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Maybe distressed would be more apt? I know the look distresses some folks... Quote
cameltoe Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 His relicing has really improved as you say. Looks great! Is there some nice lacquer checking going on? I wonder if he's had FMIC sniffing around yet? These are gaining something of a reputation now so I wonder if a 'I do not apply Fender decals' notice will appear on the website soon? Amazing though and hope it plays as well as it looks! Quote

cameltoe Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Damn. Why did you have to link to his website? I've been gassing for an 80's Siennaburst for ages, even though I can't live with 1.75" necks, and that one seems a very good price! I will have to hold firm! Quote
Billy Apple Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 I'm not sure about this guy. He's trying to sell a Ric on his site with a bolt-on neck! Quote

Beer of the Bass Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016
That's just what I thought. I think it needs a 'k' in it (relicking) but this makes it seem medieval. Maybe that's about right.
"Relicking" sounds like the act of having another lick of something that you licked earlier. It's a nice looking bass, but surely tongues would be taking things a bit far! Quote

Variable in quality and usefulness of course, but there are some quite good ones to be had depending on your needs. They are a valuable tool for checking out different genres and also for keeping your hand in if you're 'between bands'. Quote
discreet Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) Quick update - my OCD got the better of me, finally. I originally specced a parchment guard (as in OP) for this bass, but every single Dakota P I've seen anywhere seems to have a green mint guard as standard. So I found an 'aged' USA mint P guard on eBay... you can't see the subtleties in this pic, but it's a great job, not overdone and fits very well with the overall level of relic. Pleased! Now I can forget all about that and concentrate on actually playing it! Edited January 9, 2016 by discreet Quote
discreet Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) Some closer and more detailed pics of the 'aged' mint guard here... these people do a good job. Very plausible.
