Roger2611 Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I know we have had many threads on here about songs people love playing, songs that turn people away form covers bands etc I don't think we have had one on songs that were massive hits and really should be covered but are too complex for bands to do...I have a few suggestions. Airport.....The Motors.....lots of keyboards and vocally hugely difficult for your average covers band to handle the harmonies Dancing Queen.....Abba or anything be Abba really....again vocally so hard to get right I am sure there are loads but really I am thinking about big hits that would be well received by your average covers band pub audience that never find their way onto set lists So, what you got for me?
"AOR" stuff like Foreigner Toto etc is rich picking ground for well known catchy tunes but the many of songs are deceptively intricate and require a bit of effort to get right (which is probably why they dont get aired to often). bonzodog Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I've always wanted to cover the damned version of Eloise but it's a bit hard in a 3 piece Quote
EssentialTension Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 You can cover any song if you have a way of rearranging it. http://youtu.be/V4WGsMplGxU Quote

leschirons Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) Although not a massive hit, I've only ever heard one band attempt this. I must say they did a great job, especially vocally. Glorious, by Andreas Johnsson. https://www.youtube....h?v=pzQ82Ny1ToI Edited January 2, 2016 by leschirons Quote
Happy Jack Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Which rather begs the question, what was it that you wanted to cover that with? Quote
chriswareham Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Pretty much anything by Skinny Puppy after the first mini-album. Once Dwayne Rudolph Goettel joined the complexity of the samples and arrangements was difficult to replicate. Quote
Mykesbass Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) As seen in post #3832 for a stunning version of a song I reckon hardly ever gets a live airing: http://basschat.co.u...10#entry2943067 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPiqwvbegq0 Edited January 2, 2016 by Mykesbass Quote

EssentialTension Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016
Without You - Nilsson
I can imagine The Junkyard Dogs doing a Badfinger version. It would need to be placed carefully in the setlist. http://youtu.be/PPco24LS31A Quote
EssentialTension Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 ... mind you, it's 3.57 but seems like 9.57. Quote
Happy Jack Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 LOL - I like that a lot. The Nilsson version was [cliche alert] part of the soundtrack to my teens [/cliche alert] so I've always had a soft spot for that song. Quote
