Clarky
Played first six tracks off new album in a roughly 2 hour 15 minute set and started with the cracking opener 'That was just your life'. Enjoyed it overall but it didn't live up to my expectations, if I'm honest (I don't want to be, I love the band and have even got a Metallica tattoo fercrissakes!) Some strange back catalogue choices (too much Black Album and miscellaneous not-quite-classics; no 'Sandman', virtually nothing off RTL (only 'Bells Toll') or MOP (only title track), no 'Motorbreath''/Whiplash'/'Horsemen' - I mean who would rather hear 'Until it sleeps' or 'Stone cold crazy' over 'Creeping Death' or 'Battery' or 'Fade to Black' but that's what we got). I guess they figured we heard the others last summer at Wembley but even so .... Plus sound quality was pants (a woolly mess with lead guitar virtually inaudible in solos) and I was stood near a bunch of bone-headed tw@ts who wanted to create their own mosh-pit and bugger anyone else unlucky enough to be stood near (one even head-butted a bloke who objected to his girlfriend being smashed about, with the perpetrator knowing he had safety in numbers). Don't you just hate these swaggering, topless @rseholes (who I maintain don't really like the music, just like licensed thuggery) and want to put them in a dark room and give them a taste of their own medicine? Always makes me wish I was 6 foot 6 inches and built like the proverbial brick sh*t-house. Anyway I digress ... As this is supposed to be bass-related (vaguely) ... for those who want to know Mr Robert Trujillo (aka Monkey Crab) played an assortment of Fernandes (4 and 5 string), Warwick (4 string) and Tobias (4 string) basses. Think the Warwick was a 4-string Streamer in black oiled finish. Looked tiny on him! There, that made my thread bass-related! Noisyjon
+1 about the lead guitar in the mix. I knew it would be a 'different' set list from looking at their tour website and checking out Friday's set list. There was Blackened from AJFA too. Not bad for a fiver though, was it!!! Faithless
What da hell? I haven't seen 4-stringy Warwick in his arsenal, only fivers... Though, I haven't seen the whole 'new album' live thing, only photos... But the only 4er that I remember from earlier shows was sorta P-bass that he was using on Fuel, Motorbreath... You could see it clearly there, on Ozzy's cover Though, all those 'new' basses his using, and I've also spotted were fivers... He used 2 or 3 five-string Fernandes (one with tattoo flames, one in purple) - looks like that is his choice when he needs five. Shorter set plus new album showcase meant no bass solo, unlike Wembley
TheDarkReaver
Strange, I thought Trujillo was solely a 5-string guy. Shame about them forgoing classics for...not quite so classics. Still, I would have loved to have been there. Havn't had a chance to see them live yet
Tee
They are on Jools Holland BBC2, right now (along with Kings of Leon)
Sibob
Apparently Lars was pretty sloppy, although that really doesn't surprise me anymore! Si
narnia
First time we've been to a Metallica-only show (saw them at Reading a few years ago).....and were completely blown away by them, really really enjoyed the whole set, and thought the staging was great too, nice and simple, so everyone could see and it gave the band plenty of freedom to shift about,Thrilled to have only paid a fiver.......and will be queueing to buy tix for next tour. Agree about the 'moshing'......it's one thing enjoying having a damned good jump about, but we were sitting up on the sides and could clearly see a big fat b'stard smacking hell out of people and nothing was done about him, though he was clearly causing mayhem down there. Oddly on the opposite side to him someone else was physically jumped on by several security guys and taken from the arena.Son, who was down in the front near the first guy said this chap was just intent on causing damage.and anyone who objected to his behaviour was threatened with a smacking.WHY do people get like this at gigs?? Just tuned in JUST in time!! Also i'd have been pretty chuffed with that set list, they played some of the better songs off the new album, they also played some old stuff they dont usually play like jump in the fire and a few other classics they usually play like blackened etc, not too sure about frantic though? Tee
The extended show will be on Friday night. I guess they'll do another tune.
