I love the stuff Crimson Guitars sell for Luthiers, but they do not have a bass Notched Straight Edge and Guitars and Woods in Portugal do.

I wonder if anyone has experience of their tools?

I bought a radius sanding block from them and it was fine, though I've no experience of any of their other products. I'm not sure if a notched straight edge is an absolute essential if you're just doing a fret level and dress on your kit bass, as I've managed it several times with simpler tools. As long as you can get the top surface of the frets straight and level you should be able to achieve a decent setup. I could see it being useful to diagnose issues in a repair situation though.

Yeah, you really don't need one, but if you feel one would help by all means go for it. I don't own a notched straight edge and have never needed one....regular straight edge all the time though!!

Here is a thread discussing their use here http://www.mylespaul...love-leave.html

I agree with Manton Customs that you don't really need a notched straight edge, but ref G&W, yes, ive used them a few times for different stuff and personally found them reliable and selling decent stuff. The acrylic templates they recently sent me are top notch...

Thanks chaps, you have saved me some money. Regarding straight edges, is a 600mm steel rule straight enough or do I need an ultra accurate straight edge?
