Thumb position

I want to learn to play in the thumb position. (from the octive G on the 1st string). Scales / Arpeggio's etc. Where can I find information regarding using the correct left hand fingering?

Apart from on-line (with Geoff, of course!) - for arco, I would recommend either Introduction to the thumb position by Cathy Elliot; or Enjoy The Double Bass Vol 4.

Also check out Joel Quarrington's exercises, a lot of which is based around Petracchi. Lots of v useful stuff all in a cheap pdf download.
