Japhet Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 The man has gone. What song does it for you? For me; Lady Grinning Soul (with the gorgeous bassline from Trevor Bolder. Quote
EBS_freak Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Probably predictable... but Let's Dance. Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Queen bitch . Never been a huge Bowie fan , but appreciate him etc.Bought a greatest hits cd in the hmv sales about 8/9 years ago , still unplayed. Quote
Stu-khag Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 memory of a free festival. purely for the chorus. I could listen to it all day! Quote
bassace Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Well, it's not ever his greatest but I remember waking up on a morning of '66 and hearing 'Can't help thinking about me' by David Bowie and the Lower Third. I thought, there's something special here. There was something about his voice that stayed in my head. Quote
spectoremg Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Ashes to Ashes. Just when I thought he was finished (again) he came up with Scary Monsters with this diamond on it. Quote
Paul S Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Moonage daydream, for all sorts of reasons. Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Either John, I'm Only Dancing, for being the first complete bassline I ever learned, or Heroes, just because it's Heroes. Quote
Cato Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I've always found 'life on mars' very poignant which is odd as the lyrics are so completely abstract. Quote
rushbo Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) Starman...mainly because it takes me back to 1972 every time I hear it. And as for that incredible Top of the Pops performance... Edited January 11, 2016 by rushbo Quote
Oopsdabassist Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Its always been Heroes for me, so much emotion in one song, but Blackstar is just so damn weird...and current..and so...Bowie.... Quote
BassTractor Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 "Warszawa". It was the song that drew me to his work, and it has always done it for me. Other than that: "Subterraneans" as well as "Heroes", though there really are dozens. Quote
roceci Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Soooo many to choose from but Blackout from Heroes is one of his greatest hidden gems for me. Bowie in full poetic pomp over Murray & Davis' trashy, monstrous funk groove. Love it. Quote
seashell Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 So many to choose from, so I'm going to go with one that brings back some great personal memories for me. 'Warsawa' from the Low album. A lovely atmospheric track. Also reminds me of a play I was in when I was at Uni, and it was used as background music. We were so arty farty and we thought we were so cool. Happy days. Quote
Luulox Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Heroes but there are quite to choose from. Quote
seashell Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016
Suffragette City Blue
Oh this as well! Reminds me of dancing to this at the Burway Rowing Club disco. One to really rock out to. :-) Quote
JapanAxe Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016
Ashes to Ashes. Just when I thought he was finished (again) he came up with Scary Monsters with this diamond on it.
+1 from me! Quote
clauster Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Songs from 6 different decades mean I just can't choose one. The one I've linked to on FB today though is "Everyone Says Hi" just because I thought most people would go for classics Quote
