Love to try them four into my walkabout at 2ohms ... Mind you you are crazy Jose - if it were me I would have picked up another BB2!

re: crazy - yup. There's a bit of that. :P

re: BB2 - it was my original idea, 2x S112 for most gigs, and 2x BB2 for the loud ones. But I prefer the sound of the S112s. And 4 of them don't sound half bad and are loud enough.
I feel reluctant to let my BB2 go, 'though. It's a pretty cool speaker. One day I'll find someone with another BB2 and we'll have a little noise session with the two BB2s and the 4 S112s. :)

Damn, the LM3 sounds sweet through a pair of these S112s! :)
It seems that the LM3 is better suited to the S112 than the Streamliner was. It even seems louder somehow!

My LM2 is certainly very "rich" in its midrange - and it would seem that mids are what the S112s specialise in. I guess they just work well together :)

Well, I'll be passing through Edinburgh in about ten days time if you change your mind... :P

not yet, not yet ;)

but if you want to hear how your Compact and a BB2 sound together, let me know and we could arrange something :)

Still happy with the rig Jose? :)
Yup! :)
I only ever use 1 or 2 speakers together so far  but I like having options.
Tomorrow's gig just needs 1 speaker as it'll be strictly my onstage monitor. The only question is 'black or blue?' :P

I still want to experiment with two BB2 as that would be a pretty cool and loud rig... but I do prefer the sound of the S112. It's just that one cannot rest idly and say "ook, I'm done for now"

so yeah... I think I'm going to get a second BB2 and ditch the 4x S112 thing. Pity they seem so rare in the FS section...
I've been using the BB2 a bit more now and I love the sheer power and tight bottom end of those cabs.
One or two S112 will be just fine for most of my needs, and when I need more... Two BB2 are an amazingly loud and compact solution, which still fit in the boot of my A3.

I had a BB2 and a Compact - used them both a few times, and the BB2 alone couple of times. Moved the BB2 on because I'm not a fan of horns (and I needed the cash at the time), and I liked the Compact tone more. Bought a Midget, and used both together for everything. As good as the BB2 was, alone it was just too small for me onstage - I had the impression my calves (and the audience) were getting the best of the sound. If I'd have had the cash, I'd have gone with two BB2s (with the horns off) and been a lot happier.

Edit: What I really should have got (and maybe will do at some point) is get two Super Compacts - that'd be nearer my tone goals…but that's just me…

I can't imagine ever needing a pair of BB2s. One is very loud indeed although, a part of me fancies try two.

Just a thought... I have a BB2 and a Super Midget. That's three rigs - small, medium and overkill.

Maybe add a SM for more flexibility?

I have played enough times where 1x BB2 is not really enough. Not very often, but it happens. And I realised that 2x BB2 beat 4x S112 in almost every sense...
I like the sound of the BB2 as is, I just want... louder.

Ha! I used to use a BB2 + Compact as well! :)
I sold the Compact as I preferred the BB2... ah, if only we could have synchronised!

I tend to use the BB2 with the horn control at its brightest setting, and cut down the top end at the bass if it's too much.

I also like the stack of 2 (2xBB2 or BB2+Compact) because it just gets a better sound wherever I am too, as well as out in front. Considering they're relatively small and light, why not? It's not all about needing the volume.

Most times I don't need to be that loud, and that's where the 2x S112 are perfect. I'm sure 1x BB2 out-performs them in terms of volume, but stacked vertically I like their sound a bit better and they're a breeze to carry.

If a BB2 isn't loud enough (and I do understand what you mean) then it's time to DI into the PA.

However, I know how good a pair of speakers can sound.

That's why I also have a Super Midget to pair with my BB2. :)

The 2x BB2 scenario is for when there's no PA to plug into.
However I've sometimes used the BB2+Compact when I had PA support. Yes, it was overkill as a monitor but it was easy to get a good sound onstage without being loud.

Well, it's decided: one pair of S112 will go away (the black pair).
The reason is two-fold:

1) it looks like I'm getting a second Barefaced BB2, so if I need to move some serious air, a pair of BB2 will do a decent job while still fitting in my boot.

2) I found that the S112 cabs actually are louder than I thought at first!

More on the S112, since this thread was about them... I'm now pretty much using just the MarkBass LM3 with them. I have used a single speaker several times now, as a stage monitor. So far, every single time I placed it on top of an existing cab (410 everytime). This achieved two things: I separated the active cab from the floor (one of the venues has a horrible hollow stage, ugh... this made our stage sound a LOT better), and being closer to my ears I got a much clearer sound. Happiness. This cab sounds great.

With one of the bands, I used a single S112 at rehearsals. The room is largeish and we're not terribly loud but are busy (2-3 guitars, sax, trumpet, drums and myself). I was putting it on top of the 410 combo in the room and it worked... but finally I decided to try it just placing it on the floor, close to a wall. Now, that little speaker was able to put out a great amount of bass for the room. I was using the little board with a bit of compression and a Thumpinator (high pass filter). I understand the LM3 already has a HPF, but somehow it seemed the Thumpinator helped somewhat, sounding a bit tighter on the lows and I was turning up my volume less than I did normally.
I love the little S112. So light, portable, and great sounding! Yeah, I needed to boost bass a bit on the amp, compared to using other cabs, but not hugely, and it sounded pretty full.

With the other band... large room, LOUD... I used 2x S112. Again, close to the wall, bit of compression and Thumpinator... and I was not pushing the amp hard at all, yet it filled the room very nicely...

So I can see myself using the S112 cabs for most things. Small bars with a pair of them will not be filled with earth-shattering low end, but the bass will be felt and heard. They have such great presence! I love them.

When things need to get louder (in bigger places or small outdoor parties without PA, which we do play sometimes), the pair of BB2 will take care of things.

So a pair of S112s will be advertised for sale here pretty soon, just need to get some pictures taken (mods: I do have an active subscription, I'm not trying to sneak in a sales pitch circunventing the rules ;)

I spent some time modelling boxes with the same driver in WinISD, and it makes sense that the Thumpinator would help with power handing, especially if you go below E for anything.
The crazy 4x12" stack looked like a fun experiment though!
It was a fun experiment indeed! Especially when I stacked them all vertically! :P

So I wasn't imagining it, eh? I tried to find info about the HPF in the LM3 but didn't find much, only that it seems to have a lower threshold than the original LM2, possibly. I rarely go below E. I may go to D (Hipshot X-tender installed in my Stingray, which I use a lot for RATM) but that's about it.
