Bobthedog
I am going to change the strings on my Roscoe V to those recommended by Keith Roscoe himself. This the first time I have done the strings myself. If I am putting on different strings, should I reset the saddles to allow for back and forward adjustment to set the intonation? My current B string is way out re intonation with no more adjustment available.
Silvia Bluejay
Every time you change the strings you'll need to move the saddles in a different place to fix the intonation, unless you're putting on a set with exactly the same specs and from the same manufacturer (and sometimes not even in that case!). I usually install the strings first, then wait a few hours (re-tuning the open strings periodically) until they are settled, then move the saddles as necessary. Remember to check the intonation again if you decide to change the height of the saddles or of the nut (if applicable). On my 5-string basses I have taken the spring off the low B saddle in order to intonate the string correctly. Intonation of the low B is a problem particularly on 34 inch scale and below. BassBus
Jason from Fodera recently did a series of videos on setting up your bass. All the videos are very clear and easy to follow. They take you through neck relief, action, intonation and all the tools you'll need to carry out the work. Follow them and you'll know exactly what to do. http://youtu.be/cgmoRHr2cD8
HowieBass
I struggled to get the B correctly intonated on my Curbow 5 and since the screw 'disappears' into the saddle I had to use a hacksaw to remove a few millimetres off the intonation screw to get it back far enough... hopefully you won't need to do something quite so drastic if removing the spring works. Bobthedog
Thank you all for this. I feel comfortable now to do this myself. I did look on you tube but the Fodera videos did not come up.
