arthurhenry
Whilst I'm sure making music in a communicative and expressive way is foremost in our enjoyment of bass, I wonder whether it is common to derive some physical pleasure from playing the instrument. The feel of the strings under the fingers, the tension when bending a string, the neck nestling in your hand whether gripped tightly or loosely, the upper horn against your ribcage, the strap on your shoulder, etc, etc. The same way a carpenter may enjoy the feel of a chisel in their hand, or an artist, the paintbrush. During the day, if I'm not playing, I miss some of these things and crave them. JellyKnees
Are you Swiss Tony?
You've got to start by caressing the neck very gently, then when you've warmed her up, begin to strum more urgently with the tips of your fingers, gradually building speed until the low throbbing makes the whole room start to shake... Sorry, got a bit carried away there. But to answer the OP, to some degree yes, I find playing bass physically enjoyable in terms of the sensation . Not sure about the horn part though... bigd1
I think you might need the love of a good partner, sounds like that is your problem. A bass will never replace this, and you run the risk of SPLINTERS!!!
Subbeh
Colour me a wrong 'un but I'm with the OP on this. Standing, bass in place, ready to go to work, it's a really, really great feeling, there's something so right and comfortable about it
discreet
Hefty bit of wood in hand, standing up with a strap-on, G-string, big bottom end, slapping, twanging, doing it deeper, fingering A minor. Did I miss anything?
Norris
I get what you mean. I get a similar feeling when my fingers are still tingling the day after a cracking gig

To the OP: I suppose it's the same thing that makes you want to pick your bass up and play it every time you see it...

Heket
For me, the feeling of the vibrations of the strings through to where the upper horn touches my chest coupled with those deep low notes is one of the best things about the bass. The music goes straight to the heart!
MacDaddy
My custom Shuker was made to measure (to my body size and arm length and even finger length for the thumb rest \ramp) , so it is physically pleasurable to play.
Nicko
They say if you play left handed it will feel like somebody else's bass.

mingsta
Nope. It's a bit of wood with strings on it. Riding bicycles, on the other hand...well that's a whole different story...
HMX
Yeah, I geddit. It's when I hit my favourite notes and feel them resonate through the chunky neck. Feels so substantial! Err.

AustinArto
Wait til you get wrist problems. For me there's a buzz just from the syncopation with the band, but not from the instrument itself I don't think.

rushbo
Of course they're just tools (!?) - just wood and wire. But when you get one with a neck that sits perfectly in your hand and that balances beautifully and is just effortless to play, then it's a real joy.
