Nicko
Technically not much too it, not many notes either, or even anything particularly fast. Its a bit difficult actually picking the bass up in the mix and an absolute b*****rd to play properly. That is all.

danbanbass
Bloody good fun to play though, sometimes the best bass lines are subtle :-)
PaulWarning
thought it was Foo's tribute band for a minute I use audacity to it slow down and raise the pitch by an octive it really makes the bass stand out in the mix
Graham
I really like playing Long Road To Ruin from this album, really nice bass in it, nothing flashy, just works

spongebob
Used to gig this in a covers band a few years back. Band were all really happy when we finally perfected it - good fun song to play.
Happy Jack
Bit tricky to replicate the fire hoses in a pub band though ...

Mudpup
We rotate Learning to Fly, Times like These and The Pretender - love playing them all. Just really good songs i think - some plain and simple and some with crafty subtle bits. Rope is fun too........
Urban Bassman
I loved learning the bass part for this one. I also used a volume to pedal to mimic the cello part at the start of the song. Sadly our singer couldn't manage the vocals so it never sounded right and we had to reluctantly drop it. One day I'd love do it agin. We used to do Times Like These and DOA, which were great fun to play.
seashell
Although not a huge Foo Fighters fan I absolutely love The Pretender. We tried it with my old band, but never got past the rehearsal stage. I used to love playing the bass line or singing BVs on it, but doing both together was a bit beyond me. Plus the rest of the band found it a bit challenging too, so we never got it out of the rehearsal room Shame, I would have loved to have done it. Lozz196
Tried it in a sort of band I was paying with, but as we didn`t have vocals it was very easy to get lost on the structure. Shame, great song, and great fun to play along to at home.
chrisba
We did The Pretender in my previous covers band. Performed it live many times, always went down well. Didn't slavishly follow the original bass line, concentrated on getting the rhythm right, Lots of sliding down the E string. Our female BV took lead on that, suited her voice well.
