lemmywinks
Can't go wrong with markbass. I use a LMII with a Schroeder cab (£750 for both 2nd hand) Just over a grand new

Waldo
Very open ended question, if you go down the second hand route you could buy pretty much any rig you like!

Jean-Luc Pickguard
I'm very happy with my Schroeder 1212L & Markbass LittleMarkII
gary mac
I paid a visit to the Bass Merchant on thursday. Tried out a Genz Benz shuttle 6.0 and Mark Bass 102Hf. I was hugely impressed. Right on your thousand pound budget.
warwickhunt
Almost exactly £1000 got me this... However, £1000 spent used can get you 300watts of valves and loads of weight or it can get you nigh on 1000watts of digital lightness or pretty much anything in between
bass_ferret
All you r gonna get is loads of posts of people recommending what they use. There is a world of difference between the sound of just the stuff thats already been mentioned without the recommendations for Ampeg and Ashdown that are sure to follow. Without having any clue of your requirements other than watts and price I am not going to recommend anything.
Protium
Depends entirely on what sort of sound you are looking for.

chris_b
This is a generic request, so the generic reply is, you need a 500 watt (300 watts into 8 ohms) amp and a 4x10 8 ohm cab. You can always add another 8 ohm cab later if you need more power.
