guybrush threepwood Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) Here we have an Ibanez ATK that I defretted a couple of years ago. It's the first defret I've done, and I was really pleased with the result. I used maple veneers to mark the lines and the bass plays really nicely, with loads of mwah available. For anyone who hasn't played an ATK before, this basically sounds an awful lot like a Stingray. It's in excellent condition, and my bathroom scales state it as a smidge over 9lbs. I have a (unpadded) gigbag which I'll include with the sale, it will at least keep the rain off! The bass is currently strung with TI flats and set up with an easy playing low action. The board hasn't been epoxied, so I don't know how it would stand up to rounds, but with the powerful EQ you can really get into rounds territory. I'm looking for £165 delivered in the UK, or £150 collected from Nottingham or nearby. Don't really fancy any trades. For the especially geeky, I've included photos of the defretting process. All out! There weren't too many chips, but they were all hastily glued back down. After sanding the neck I glued the veneers in. I spread a mixture of glue and the sawdust from the initial sanding along the side of each veneer, to cover any tiny gaps. Carefully cutting back the veneers. Sanding back to a fine grit with a radius block to keep the fingerboard curve. Edited February 7, 2016 by guybrush threepwood
Cosmo Valdemar Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Interesting! Do you know what model ATK it is?
guybrush threepwood Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 I believe it's an ATK 200.
Guest Jecklin Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Argh! if I was flush at the moment I'd have this in a shot. GLWTS
Rich Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 So would I if it was a five. Nice defret job. Ditto, GLWTS
Machines Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 An excellent bass - anyone that wanted a fretless Stingray would do well to get this. The sound is spot on.
lee650 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 That looks a really nice bass! Is there any of my effects that take your fancy in part trade?
guybrush threepwood Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 Cheers for all the nice comments!
That looks a really nice bass! Is there any of my effects that take your fancy in part trade?
Sorry, but nothing there I'm afraid; not really into pedals!
guybrush threepwood Posted January 23, 2016 Author Posted January 23, 2016 A little bump to the top! Also, I remembered that I played this on this demo last year: https://soundcloud.com/craigharrisonmusic/travelling-woman
ricksterphil Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I'm interested - I live in Nottingham so could nip round and have a shuftie if that's OK?
Beedster Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I doubt you'll get a better active fretless for that price
