longtimefred
i think they missed a trick on being able to switch from vintage microtubes to B3K engines via the foot switch, that would have been ace. I would have been sold at that.
Kev
i think they missed a trick on being able to switch from vintage microtubes to B3K engines via the foot switch, that would have been ace. I would have been sold at that.
Doug answered that, he wanted to keep the foot switch as just needing a standard cable. If he did make that switchable, he would have had to use something else and he wanted to avoid that. It would have been cool, but I can't think of a situation where I would want to switch voices where clicking the switch on the amp wouldn't be possible. I can't see why you would switch voices mid song, but it's less of a problem for me anyway as I have a Darkglass unit on the floor.

I would select the amp voicing for a particular song but having the ability to switch the distortion on and off for the win

Daz39
I think the technical answer to the switching was on talkbass. Unless it's here and I have forgotten: the cable requirements for three way would have meant you couldn't just use any lead for the foot switch if you turned up to play without one. Also cost I guess. If you really want to switch distortion you might need to keep one of the pedals and have that on your loop...

It all depends on what you play and how you create your bass lines. I can think of loads of uses for switching drives with the style and songs i write with my band and loads of uses for it for tracks i have already written that i could back track on. Its all about flexibility for me. My B7K is my permanently on sound and it cranked as well, it would be ace to be able to change the drive from my standard raging one to a more valve overdrive for different sections / solos / dynamics etc. i get why they did not put it on, to save on different cables / cost n stuff, its just a shame to not have the flexibility as it would be a proper swiss army knife then.
Check my original post, I said for ME it won't be an issue. I understand some will want to change voices mid song. I have never done this, I will switch on another drive pedal or something to change sounds mid song, I wouldn't try and adjust the pedal already on. This is the same for me. Chances are, the settings used on the B3K voicing won't be the same settings you use on the Vintage voicing (this is absolutely true for me) and as such simply switching voices won't be enough, I would need to change the blend, gain, level and tone as well. I just personally would never be in a situation where changing the voice on the amp would not be practical.
fretmeister
I'm almost certain I would use the internal VMT sounds for most things and then hit it with a B3K for extra. I change tones mid song quite a lot, but this isn't a 2 or 3 channel amp. This is a 1 channel amp with a selectable drive voice. Genuine multi-channel amps are more complex and would cost more. And usually they need EQ per channel. I'm very much looking forward to this amp.

fretmeister
I'm sitting here looking at my GAS fund and wondering whether to pre-order. I want one, but I also want to hear the fan to make sure it's not a stupid whirly thing like in the Mesa 4:
Kev
They are shipping to Europe now, hopefully not too long before Andertons stock comes in. I'll let you know!

fretmeister
I've been looking at the manual. I had assumed the Pre Out / Power Amp in could be used as an FX loop. But the manual says when the Power Amp in is used the Master volume is disabled. So really it can't be used as an FX loop, and that might cause issues with 4CM too, depending on what the outboard gear is.
Kev
I think it operates as a normal effects loop, I think the manual states the master knob doesn't function against the wrong one. At least that's my assumption. I need it to be an effects loop... Edited October 7, 2016 by Kev
fretmeister
I'm not convinced. Unless the use of the Preamp Out re-activates the Master Volume, I've asked the question on Facebook - I'll post the reply when I get it. I've ordered one anyway. I discovered I had some Andertons points to knock another £13 off!
