Hey chaps, I hope I'm allowed to post this.
I've always fancied a 4003 shaped bass but sounding more like a P Bass. So I've got this as a project.
It's a bolt on neck (6 screws)
It's not routed so I'm going to put a P bass p/up in the P bass position. A normal BBOT bridge and a mirror guard, the same shape as the template.
It's got chequered binding.

I very much approve.

Keep the pictures coming.

I can't upload the picture from photobucket. It shows it, nice and big but when I hit 'post' it fails to load. Maybe the file size is too big.

That is cracking. I hope you've got some serious sun-glasses to go with it :)

Looks like one of David Konig's Retrovibes to me. :) Is it completely unrouted? I'd like to do something 4002 or 4004-ish with one of these.

Jon.

It's unrouted yes apart from a control cavity and where the neck pocket is.
It's off to my mate at Crockett guitars to be put together

Is the bass a renegade? If so il be interested how it sounds with P bass pups. I just can't get on with the set up of the pickups on mine!
yes it is. What pickups have you got?

Very intrigued. would like to think you could get this to sound very much like a P
.... hmmm, wouldn't mind one of these, with a P/J pickup arrangement myself :)

Well we have a basswood body with a bolt on maple neck and a P bass p/up in the right position. It's got to get close hasn't it?
Plenty of basswood P basses sound decent enough

My Renegade has the stock pickups in it. So like mini Stingray pups.

It sounds good but its a bit harsh. I fancied something I can dial back that's a little more forgiving.

What pups are you using?

Any chance of a link to where you got the body and neck from please?

Paul

There was only one available, it won't be a production thing

I'm putting a Kent Armstrong Hot vintage in it. They're usually ok. If I don't like it, maybe a tonerider. I've got allsorts at home I could try. I've got a fender reissue p/up in one of my basses, I might try that too

I've not heard the stock p/ups. I know they've worked on hi-gain clones, which apparently, sound good
I have heard the same, but havent tried the high gains.

Im not sure what im looking for, I just really dig the look of the original pickups for the 4003 with the big surround and cover. If I could find one of those id be tempted to mess around a bit and do a Yamaha attitude style with a massive humbucker at the neck and a ric style bridge pickup... Lots of routing for that!!

sounds great, go for it

I think il watch how yours pans out and then give it a go! Trying to find a ric bridge style surround is almost impossible on a budget anyway!

any help is welcomed

What steps do you take?

See if this works - I've got a photobucket piccture, I click on the direct link http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc258/dipterror/compact_gig_rig.jpg

then click on the Image icon and when the popup comes up asking for a URL, just paste the link in:

So, has this shown up?
