Anyone done it?

I recently repaired a Gibson Tbird and it sounded awesome but it's too much of a radical shape for the band I'm in/the case is massive.

I'm thinking about getting a Squier VM P and sticking some Tbird pups in.

Also any good passive models/brands?

There's a thread over at The Last Bass Outpost covering some 60s spec Thunderbird pickups. $45 each.

Sticking genuine Gibsons in a bass seems a bit subjective; allegedly these produce a very close facsimile of the 60s tone.

Mike Lull seems to sell a few of his p types with thunderbird pickups.

And there is, somewhere, a beautiful Paisley reissue fender someone has put thunderbird pickups in; looks the mutts nuts.

Pino Palladino has a Precision with two Thunderbird pickups (and a Gibson mudbucker at the neck).

The EMG HZ TB pickups are nice, fitted a couple of pairs to epi thunderbirds.

They're not chrome though and not sure how close they come to the old Gibson pickups if at all...
