JTUK
Probably Naughty..if that is 80's... it will be close enough
chriswareham
RhythmSection could be my long lost twin with that choice of albums, although I'd probably add Closer by Joy Division which squeaks in by being released in 1980. A more left field choice would be the genuinely unique Advantage album by Clock DVA, early industrial electronics meets jazz and funk in a sublime mix that wasn't to be repeated as the line up imploded on the subsequent tour. Mykesbass
Another for ABC - particularly liked this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzf8SqlzbPQ Sade: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4Yh9VgB58w and Working Week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5mtH3_439s
RhythmSection
Spooky thing is that 'Closer' very nearly made it onto my list!!!! maybe my dad has a few questions to answer.......
timmo
As a fan of The Jam, I got a bit lost in the 80`s as I hated stuff like Simply Red and Frankie Goes to Hollywood etc. The Wonderstuff - Eight Legged Groove Machine changed my direction as far as music was concerned. Maybe not the best 80`s album, but certainly the album that got me interested in music again
Norris
Too many to choose from but I'll throw these up there: Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms Tears For Fears - Seeds of Love (mainly 'cos I was playing it yesterday)
BigRedX
Lots of love for ABC here. Personally I found them a bit of a disappointment because they were so ordinary compared with how brilliant Vice-Versa the previous band of Martin Fry, Mark White and Stephen Singleton were: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVXfUilHUIk

Album wise The Stone Roses for me
I went to Sheffield (I was living in Swansea at the time) especially to see them in the early 80s (at the Hallamshire?) supported by two of Clock DVA. Awesome gig. Also Mark White was responsible for most of the vocals in Vice Versa - Martin Fry just played a Wasp synth.
TheGreek
Too many great albums from that era...here's a few which I'd propose: Tin Drum - Japan Your safe - Maxi Priest Steve McQueen - Prefab Sprout Tango in the Night - Fleetwood Mac
Bassassin
Frtom a 2016 revisionist perspective I have no idea - it was such a fertile era for music of many styles. But from the perspective of what made an impact on me at the time, and had a huge influence on me as a musician & songwriter, I'd say The Crossing by Big Country. Released in 1983 - the height of fashionista synth-pop & insipid white boy pop-funk, it was a tour de force of loud guitars used in unconventional ways, huge, emotive songs and impeccable, structured musicianship. sykilz
From my hard rockin perspective, Number of the Beast-Iron Maiden....the album that showed me the power of the dark side Pyromania-Def Leppard.....for me the perfect mix as they developed from a young raw hard rock band to the well oiled pop machine they became Misplaced Childhood-Marillion.......beautifully flowing concept album for people who missed out on them during the 70's...but this time with catchy bits too!!!! http://youtu.be/VZ5bS3_BCDs
Sausages
If it's UK only then Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring is probably my fave 80's album. There are lots that come close though.
Roger2611
Chameleons, Script of the Bridge The Cult, Love The Mission, God's Own Medicine Sisters Of Mercy, First and Last and Always 4 classic alternative albums of the 80's with only the Cult being anywhere near mainstream

arthurhenry
UK didn't release any albums in the 80s. Their last album Danger Money was released in '79. Well someone had to say it.
HowieBass
Hmmm, I suppose I'd have to say 'Hatful of Hollow' by The Smiths if only for the fact it's got 'How Soon Is Now?' on it!
lonestar
Pretty much all of the albums mentioned so far would be in my top ten for the '80s, but notably So and Songs From the Big Chair. I'd also nominate talking Heads Remain in Light. Edited January 24, 2016 by lonestar

howdenspur
I've had a slightly jaundiced view of the 80's, probably seen through the lens of a marriage which went pear shaped...But anyway: Closer - Joy Division The Crossing - Big Country Lexicon of Love - ABC Hatful of Hollow - Smiths
