john longo
Hi has anyone tried out the new Mesa Boogie subway D800 bass head, i'm interested in your opinions as to what the head would sound like played with a double bass slapping rockabilly style, i'm also interested in the Gallien Krueger mb 800 for the same purpose which one is a better amp for me please advise thanks. CamdenRob
It's very difficult to say which is better for an individual player... They are both great amps but very different. The Mesa is essentially a lightweight replication of the SVT tone, where as the GK will sound like a GK... Modern, deep and bright. They will both do a fair approximation of each other as well with some eq shaping, but the core tone (and intended market) for these amps are at opposite ends of the spectrum really. I have absolutely no experience of amplifying a BD so others will be better placed to advise, but for electric bass if you were looking for a slap tone, GK would be my first choice
