cthorpey
Hi, I am trying to sort the delay settings for "One of These Days" (Pulse dvd) Being very new to the world of effects i am not entirely sure what i am hearing. It sounds to me like there are 2 delays going on here. Please help! Ta Chris
lemmywinks
Apologies if you already know this! The album track was recorded with 2 bass tracks, one slightly after the other. You can get a similar effect live by altering your picking and using one delay so you get the galloping sound but i never managed to get the "bass chasing the bass" sound (hope that makes sense!). I can imagine using 2 long delays live would be very difficult to set up and could easily end up sounding horrible! If you make any progress let us know! Matty
In My Bass and Other Animals, Guy Pratt said that he played a bass with one delay on it, whilst Jon Carin played a second bass part on a synth. I just use a delay, two repeats, tap tempo. Sounds good enough to me, not perfect, but sounds close.
cthorpey
Thanks for the help I am tinkering with an analog delay 300ms, 6 repeats 80% mix and a teensy bit of chorus just to liven things up a bit still need to work out how to muddy it all up for the middle "One of these days i'm gonna cut you into little peices" bit starting rehersals on it on sunday, will let y'all know how it works out
SickPuppy
Tremolo is needed too for the trippy bass solo.
Delberthot
If you want to be true to the original then you'll need a Binson Echorec or 2. The original was done AFAIK with Rodger playing a Rickenbacker and Dave playing a Precision.
BassMunkee
The original was done AFAIK with Rodger playing a Rickenbacker and Dave playing a Precision.
I thought the original was done with both of them hating each other...? Rickybob
I used to play Floyds 'One Of These Days' live many years ago on a 'Wem Copycat' it was ideal & replicated the sound exactly. Not sure if there is a pedal the replicates the copycat that's not too pricey these days..
bakerster135
Similar to above, I can get really close on my Strymon El Capistan with a couple of repeats and in mode B - dotted 1/8th, then playing the note in a galloping fashion, i.e. da dada dada dada, etc. I reckon you'd be able to get pretty close on any delay pedal that has a dotted 1/8th setting and a bit of modulation. Tap tempo helps as well.
geoham
I use the model of the Binson Echorec (Echo Platter) in the Helix and get fairly close to the live version, though there's definitely two very distinct bass parts on the original record. This video is VERY entertaining, and may also be helpful! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKFJsxEMHMQ 1
