police squad
So the truss rod doesn't work on my Steve Harris bass. It needs to be tightened just to flatten the neck a little but it keeps winding with nothing happening. Luckily it's still under warranty and the dealer I purchased it from will collect it and send it to Fender. This is the first time in 35 years of playing bass that I've ever had to do a warranty claim on a bass guitar. Amps etc, they've been back from time to time but never a guitar. You can see the cross head and the bass of the fingerboard, it screws further in with nothing happening. Anyone else had this?
Twincam
You could try putting pressure on the nut more as you tighten while with the strings off trying to slightly back bow the neck yourself. You can do this between your knees or get someone to help. Might help to overcome a crossed thread. If not send it back. And of course make sure your turning the right way, it happens even if you've done 100s before.
police squad
it's been to my local and highly respected luthier. He's seen it before. It's a shame because I love the bass

Its rare but I guess failures do happen from the factory time to time. Saying that I would of thought from fender they get a basic setup at the factory??? police squad
he did explain it to me but I don't really understand but he said it was no good. It adjusts very slightly but then slips back

It was when they introduced the Custom Shop pup upgrades (2012?), and a dealer was selling this off cheaper, as old stock. The bass had the same problem as the OP's - adjust truss rod, only for neck to keep returning to it's 'original' position. Upshot was, Fender took the bass back, put on a new neck, full set up, and couriered the bass back to me for free. Excellent service from Fender. However, I'm not a Fender guy, and so the bass was sold on. The new owner got a beauty after all the work!
