WIll you vanish from Basschat?

I would of thought since playing an instrument tends to be a lifetime or longer term hobby/profession and since of course there's always new bits of kit coming out the forum would have more longevity for people.

I can understand people posting less or not at all but not viewing the classifieds, it's one of my fav parts of the day haha.

I sometimes surprise myself. For years I was solidly onboard all the time, (and I mean ALL the time it was practically unhealthy) even before the famous FBI database incident of 2004 - BassWorld anyone? However, thanks to a huge amount of upheaval this year, I'd say I have been away for longer than I have been visiting. I don't think that I'll be on as much as when the forum (BW that is) had a mere 30 odd users, but I won't ever leave. It's a bit like the Hotel California.

I took a break from playing for the last couple of years. Got bored of gigging and lost interest. Got the itch again now - so now lurking here again!

My sentiments exactly.
I'm not a prolific poster but I do enjoy reading a post or two & I trust the marketplace, not that I do much buying/selling these days.
I can also remember Bass World & the old guard & it's been interesting to watch the community evolve into what it is now.
Members come & members go, I'll be staying for a while.

I check in everyday, but usually just check out stuff for sale and click 'view new content' for a general overview of things. I'm not really interested in ' Off Topic' as it can get a bit heated there.

There were one or two people, who have disappeared, whose opinions on bass (and other things) were well worth reading (Outtoplayjazz and xilddx being two). And it was sad to see them go.

As long as I still play bass, I assume I'll continue to pop my head in now and again.

I think, as someone mentioned, it's probably more the case of not coming back rather than "leaving". I know I've had longish periods of time off without really thinking about it. But I'm mostly a lurker anyway, been here for almost 8 years and the number of my posts suggests I reply to a thread less than once a week on average.

People were lovely on here when i split with my mrs a few years ago,i keep meaning to add to it more but im just trying to survive at the moment,mrs tinman and a few others were just the best and i hope they got what they wanted,this is a great forum,so keep it going bass brothers and sisters.

I check in a few times a day. I have insatiable curiosity about gear - what people use, how they use it. Costs me a fortune in the classifieds, too. I mostly enjoy the off topics - I don't usually bother reading a paper but if anything worth mentioning in the world occurs it gets reported here.

On the whole I think this is a wonderful, friendly and helpful community and compared to most it remains reasonably even-tempered. I love the humour of some posters and the forum is guaranteed to make me smile a few times a day. I also find it amusing to see the new heights of arrogance to which a couple of regular posters rise... there seems no limit at the moment.... IMO

Good humoured, generally well informed and easy going, so long as I play bass why would I not visit. Basschat helped me when I was starting out so I kind of feel the need to help out anyone with the little bits on knowledge I do have. Bass is important to me but not to anyone else I talk to on a regular basis so why wouldn't I want to come and have the occasional chat?

Some days I could easily do so, depends a lot on the level of debate for me. If I get a bit 'disappointed' for want of a better word with the posts then I stay away for a bit and wander back in my own time.

I come here every day, although I don't post anywhere near as much as I used to-as my level of disposable income is less, I don't have the spare cash to spend on bass gear, so I guess I don't have as much urge to get involved. As long as I'm gigging, I'll stick around, not sure I would be quite so regular here otherwise. However I am quite cyclic in my interests, perhaps bass playing will come back to the fore at some point.

I had a bit of a hiatus when my son was born (didn't play much for a months either) but i've got back into it again now he's nearly 2.

I've been here since 2007 and about 2-3 years before that on Bassworld, so I doubt i'm going anywhere in the long term.

As twincam says though, playing an instrument for many is a lifetime commitment, profession or hobby
and some just move on to other hobbies, or life's other commitments get in the way....
Even after years of playing, there's always something new to learn, or some new equipment which I'd like to hear about
So I'm here to stay, as long as I'm playing bass

However, I quite understand that others have to leave, or simply just don't bother to continue on the forum
But new people joining & leaving, is what keeps a forum going

I leave Basschat signed in on every device in the house so it probably looks like I have nothing else to do.

I tend to look at the stuff for sale most days and if I really have nothing to do, look for any threads that stand out enough to take my interest. There are times where I don't look for days and I guess when those periods get longer and longer until you don't bother at all, you've sort of left.

I've had a fairly lengthy break of mainly learning guitar a little more and not needing any bass gear whatsoever. It was also a very busy and stressful year last year, and it is only since December/this month that things have started to get back to normal.

I have always checked in with just reading topics but since NAMM I've started posting again.

Unfortunately, every band I have worked with or attempted to start has been a waste of my time the past few years.

I hang around probably more than I should (though perhaps not as much as I used to), but I'm under doctor's orders to get out more now so I try to keep attendances fairly short unless there's something specific I need to do. I haven't played seriously for some years so gear forums don't interest me that much these days unless I'm selling something. I do enjoy intelligent conversation about events of the day though so tend to spend most of my time either here or in OT.

Unfortunately most of my main areas of interest are a bit rich for most folks around here (although the photography group looks promising; and it was nice to discover that there are some old-fashioned petrolheads around the place too).

The number of people around here with specialist knowledge in all manner of disciplines who seem happy to give up time to share some of it with others is something I've always liked about this place too.

Cutting to the chase: will I ever leave? Probably not - at least not any time soon. As online forums go we could do an awful lot worse. I'd expect the level of my contributions to progressively diminish of course, but I'll be around for a while yet I think.
