Great 80's Singles - a follow up thread.

BigRedX's post in the earlier 80's Albums thread has prompted me to put up the singles version. I loved both of his choices but was completely oblivious to the albums, only knowing the singles.

So mine to kick things off:

I'm sure plenty of people loved the album, but this was definitely a single release for me

and this one, I thought the rest of the album was a bit disappointing, but the single superb:

Any of the singles from So are always going to get my vote. However, beyond that, there are many things that rate highly for me, not least of which is this completely rock mix of a Frankie Goes To Hollywood hit, featuring the late Gary Moore on guitar.

FGTH were the absolute masters of the remix! (well, Trevor Horn probably)!

For me the 80s was all about the single, as I discovered when compiling my list of favourite 80s albums, there were loads of great songs but often the album as a whole would be a bit weak. Also because the independent scene was in full swing there were loads of bands that made a couple of decent singles but never managed to scrape enough cash to ether to put out a whole album. Expect a massive list tomorrow when I get my act together...

Another big EBTG fan here but then I did go to school about 400 yds from where Tracey did. I think I've got every album...

Now, 80s singles - there were some great forgotten singles from around that time...

Strangely I've just been listening to Brilliant Mind by Furniture so I'll put that in as a classic eighties song.

Go and buy their album "the Wrong People" then. IMO Brilliant Mind is probably the weakest track on it.

Then you'll probably love this one too...

Wrong decade, but yes, this version was the first time I knowingly heard a Neil Young song. A guy called George Carr, who I'm sure some of the North East Basschatters will know (he took over JG Windows at some point) had been involved with them and played this to me when we both worked at a terrible independent record distributor in Wembley :)
