danbanbass Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I've been asked to join a foo fighters tribute band after passing the audition. Currently I don't have a rig...easy I hear you say, buy an ashdown as that's what Nate Mendel uses...however I don't find they compliment my playing or sound. So can anyone suggest an alternative head I can try to achieve that foos sound/tone? Cab wise I'm looking at trying ashdown, its just the heads I can't get on with. Quote
Lozz196 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Ampeg PF800, Aguilar Tonehammer 500, or Gallien Krueger MB Fusion 500 would be a good starting place. All warm enough sounding, all plenty powerful enough. Quote
danbanbass Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 Would a orange Bass terror be suitable? Going to try a tone hammer and pf800 this weekend Quote
fretmeister Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I like Ashdown heads - it's the cabs I don't like. I used to use a Marshall VBC412 cab with one. Big huge sound, far better than the Ashdown cabs. But these days - any good lightweight head and a Vintage Microtubes pedal! Quote
danbanbass Posted January 30, 2016 Author Posted January 30, 2016 Thanks for the help guys, bought a Aguilar Th500 and possibly buy a pair of Svt410he cabs and it sounded great through one. Quote
Lozz196 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Nice one, the TH500 is a great amp, I`ve used mine connected to a wide range of cabs and am yet to find one it doesn`t work well with, can only wonder with immense jealousy at how good it would be through two SVT410HEs. Quote
