bakerster135
So, my AVRI 62 Jazz Bass has the vintage threaded saddles on it (these, if you're not familiar with what I mean!). The problem is that I'm quite a heavy right-hand player, and I keep wearing out the threads on the E String saddle, which means the string doesn't stay in place and ends up wobbling about between the threads...I've been through five saddles now (official Fender ones which are actually ridiculously expensive for what they are), and this keeps happening! Rather than change my technique, is anyone aware of a way around this, or if there is some method of strengthening the threads on the saddle so they don't wear out quite as easily? I (and my wallet) would appreciate any advice that anyone can give! Thanks, Al
RhysP
Is it of vital importance that they have to be vintage style saddles? If not just replace them with something better with a single string groove on them.
KiOgon
I would think a needle file to enhance/deepen/enlarge the 'chosen thread' of the saddle should solve it!
Beedster
Hey Alex, I may have the solution so have PM'd
bakerster135
Thanks for the suggestions guys, and for the PM Chris! I think I'll buy a 70s bridge and transplant the saddles, should do the trick
DaveFry
I guess a worn E could be inverted and swapped with an inverted D or G ( both with the height adjusters removed and used the other way round ) and then you would get twice the life ! Just a thought .
